Why should I NOT use teflon tape?

I have seen a couple of people say that you should never use teflon tape to seal off a vavle or two. I am getting a new drop forward, and that is what I was planning to use... Is there a reason I shouldn't use it?? I mean isn't that what teflon tape is for??? Thanks for any help!

one reason for not using it

is that if you are not careful little pieces of tape can tear off and get digested by the gun. If the little piece of tape should become trapped in the reg it can cause the reg to stop... errr, regulating.

I still use tape on all the fittings... I'm just careful to make sure to keep it on the threads and to clean it up after disassembling a taped connection.

The reason that most people say to not use it is that most people don't know how to use it right. If you have your tape go over the end of the fitting it will get cut off and you will send pieces of the tape toward the small passages that exist in any paintball marker. I use loctite for aesthetics as much as function. I don't like seeing little white strings hanging out all over the place.

Maximum of 2 wraps only following the direction of threads this way you don't unwrap it while threading it on.
It also helps to cut the teflon tape in half width wise on the roll that way you don't have all this access hanging out. It peeves me when I see someone over wrap fittings with teflon.

You're supposed to wrap the tape the opposite direction you screw the item in with. So wrap the tape left .. screw in right.

That's so the end should be facing the opposite way you are screwing so you don't pull it up when you start screwing it together. err.. atleast that's what I was told/always done.

Don't forget that it is cheap. I like it chose I am always taking apart my cocker to tinker and I have a ton of fittings to take apart and I sure don't wanna crack apart loctight all the time.

Macroline is a different sort of seal. Teflon wont help you there. You proboly have it too tight. Gas it up and tug on the macroline... does it still leak?

try what officer goat said, and if that doesnt help you may need to just purchase new macro. Yours may becoming weak and worn on the ends.

Teflon tape is ok to use if your careful like everyone has already said. The guns that are sensitive to teflon tape pieces inside the gun are the electropneumatics like impulses vikings, shockers, angels, and timmies.

If you use too much teflon tape you can get small pieces inside your reg and then you have some problems. With electros that have selonids, excessive tape can clog the noid to the point where its ruined. If you dont want to use teflon tape one alternative is lock-tite. Only use the blue lock-tite, if you are not sure look at the label. it should read "threads can still be tightened and loosened after application" If you get the strong lock-tite you are gonna have to heat up the part you want to remove. I bought 2 tubes at a local dollar store, for quess what $1!! They werent lock-tite brand put they still work.

If teflon tape is used right it is fine, but there are far too many people out there that just throw way too much tape on and tighten the fittings till there knuckles turn white.
