    Microchip programmers....

    okay, im looking into getting a microchip programmer, but, how many lines of code are we talking to program a chip for a gun?

    Depends on what you want the chip to do.
    Click, Bang = at least Ten lines of code.
    Do you know C or Java? if not you will.

      Java, i was under the impression i would need c or assembly? in either case, i'm using tutorials on both.

        Some are in basic. Are you talking a Stamp or a Pic?

            pic is microchips line of microcontrollers.

            if you want to program an atmel chip, you need an atmel programmer.
            As society and the problems that face it become more and more complex and machines become more and more intelligent, people will let machines make more of their decisions for them, simply because machine-made decisions will bring better results than man-made ones. Eventually a stage may be reached at which the decisions necessary to keep the system running will be so complex that human beings will be incapable of making them intelligently. At that stage the machines will be in effective control. People won't be able to just turn the machines off, because they will be so dependent on them that turning them off would amount to suicide

            sometimes I just freaking hate people. which means the next day I will love them for the sake of balance, but right now I will just concentrate on the hating. Hate hate hate. Blaaaarg! ;)

            turborev - with ai like this, if it controlled any more than a paddle, it would kill you and everyone you care about. ;)

                Atmel's microprocessor chips are AVR's.

                On the Atmel website, you can get all the tools you need to program. Also, do a search on the internet. There are tons of source code that you can use to learn different funtions.
                Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

                  Actually, there are PIC compilers that let you program the code in a form of BASIC, which is then translated to what the PIC can use and is then stored on the PIC itself.

                  This is not quite the same as a Basic stamp, which puts the BASIC-like code on the stamp, then decodes and executes it on the fly.

                    if you use a pic compiler, you have to use a microchip pic microcontroller, not an atmel avr microcontroller...

                      I give you programming guys a lot of credit....I took a semester of C++ and hated every minute of it.

                      Flashback: Watching my pages upon pages of code compile and then the debugger laughing in my face.
