You've gotta be caeful with what you get from the Bad Ideas section of totse. alot of it is that stupid anarchists cookbook crap that'll likley get you killed. The Backyad Ballistics forum over there is pretty good. The mods(DTP, warweed12, and a123x) are pretty cool, and they try to get rid of all the anarchist cookbook/kewl bs.

Ah...tater-tossers This is bringing back some good times, I made mine like 5 years ago and since then every picnic we have everyone ask to bring her out. An air system will take longer to build but is much safer. I have a combustion type cannon, with use of Auqanet hairspray and a BBQ Grill ignitor. Whatever system you chose just use your head and BE CAREFULL

My friend Social D who hangs out here but a gun exactly like you are describing. Contact him for more info. We had a 20oz bottle, expansion chanber and a inline regulator on the whole thing. It was killer for shooting tennis balls across the neighborhood on the fourth.

My buddy and I build potato guns (pneumatic of course) all the time. We average a new one atleast once a month and usually build one every other week I'll get some pics and materials list soon. We use the 280psi rated stuff SH40 is the technical name I beleive. Anyhow we launch potatoes, waterbaloons (needs like 5 sheets of toilet paper for wadding to not blow up in the barrel), those little pool torpedos but we stopped that cause it blew a hole in 1/2" plywood from like 20 yards away at 80psi....

this would be a long story so ill keep it simple
i build a potato gun
redriled the igniter hole
forgot bout the original hole
held it against my chest
fired it
all the flaming hirspry went into my side and i doubled over
got a third degree burn
have a big scar
heres a pic 2 days after
kept the t-shirt
and the sweatshirt
still built potato guns
test them at a safe distance first
that burn is about 2 inches wide

Dude the easiest way is to get a bike valve, a ball valve, pvc pipe and an air compessor. the peumatic cannons are stronger and safer than the combustion cannons. put it all together and have fun !!! (try shooting iron bars with duct tape wrapped around it to fit smoothly in the barrel, you only need about 300 psi to shoot it through 2 2x4's)
