    Revolver pistol

I have the interesting idea to make a revolver style paintball pistol, moving cylinder and all. Problem is the pnuematics at the moment, I can't find a bolt small enough to work with the design shape, so my current quention is, is a bolt needed or is just the push of air good enough?

You mean something like the old 3357 Spotmarker from Crossman?

Now, it shot .50 cal paint but I'd try to find a picture or owners manual before you kill yourself on your own design.

        To answer your question...

A bolts only function is to seperate individual paintballs, and cut off blowback in the breech...

If your using a "revolver" type gun, you shouldn't have those problems...

If i remember right the old nova markers used only a burst of air to propell the paintballs. Never really saw anybody using them though.

I actucally use to own a nova. It wasn't a bad gun, but the rate of fire was kinda poopy and the gun body was bulky.

All this guy asked was if a burst of air would work and i automatically thought of the nova but i am not sure if i remembered correctly. So is that how it works or what?

I'm not picky about weight, or size, its more of a for fun project, thus why I'm not worried about having to redesign things (since its just to mess around with). My current design is based off the Colt 1851 revolver, huge ungainly thing, but rather nice looking imo. Any concept drawing for the valve system would be awesome, since I'm having trouble w/ velocity adjusting and valve. My hopes is to have it not be a semi auto, and like in the actual old west gunslinger days, have to recock after every shot, again just for fun. Any drawings or anything would be appreciated, thanks.

Well in that case is you want something that is kinda huge i think the easiest thing to do would be to look at the mechanics of an actual revolver (ex. when you pull the hammer back the spool spins lining up the chamber to the barrel) As for the valve you could attempt to modify a "turtle" vavle for an autococker so that the air input becomes the air output and vis versa. I am saying the turtle valve because the spring is inside the valve housing. To find more infor you can go to http://www.turtlecockers.com/ . This is a link to the picture of the valve itself http://www.turtlecockers.com/asptest...y/Turtle25.jpg hope this helps.

or you could be crazy and make an electro revolver, just pull the trigger and electrics will take care of it all hahaha ok must be serious now... how about trying for a pneumatically assisted revolver mechanism? pull the trigger to fire, on the return stroke of it, have it use a burst of air or something to turn the mechanism? o wait nvm, just reread that post you put... aahahaha must read more thoroughly.... anyway, then how about having a "hammer" actuate a pneumatic system then instead of the trigger (sounds like the pneu assist from Doc's...)? solves the semi, and makes the hammer lighter to pull. (please dont flame me, i'm just an innocent bored noob )

I'm pretty sure that the Nova had a sleeve around the barrel or something that would close around the ball and seal the breech. Therefore no bolt.

If you put pnuematics on the revolver, to make it semi-auto, you could put grooves in the cylinder, like a Webley-Fosbery.

yes it did. they had what they called an "articulating barrel" instead of hte bolt moving back and forward. the barrel did. so it still sealed the breach from one paintball to the next.
