    Emag Questions...my first Mag

About a month ago I traded off my latest custom eblade build (my specialty) for something new to play around with... a PTP Micro Emag(dead sexxxy blue/black) with LVL 10 and the stock software...which is my first mag (sort of...actually I traded for a mag a year or so ago but it wasn't the gun I was told it was so I sent it back).

Anyway to begin with I know next to nothing about mags except for what I picked up watching an old automag videos my boss gave me a few months ago when I mentioned being interested in possibly getting a mag.
When the gun arrived it needed a new hall sensor which arrived from AGD at the same time..install was no problem.BUT after it was installed the gun was firing on the release instead of the trigger pull and only doing that inconsistantly...after tweaking and screwing around for a week or so and talking to AGD Tech dept. (had no idea what was wrong) a couple of times I found out ,quite by accident that the hall sensor is polarity sensitive...okay simple enough fix...the gun works fine now but with the stock trigger I can't get any kind of decent rate of fire...I actually glued a flat bar across the trigger (temporarily) just to see if a flat trigger helped...sure did.My ROF just about doubled. enough about that for now.

Being a natural tweaker I am not one to leave a new (to me) gun alone until I know as much as I possibly can about it.(I spent 2+++ years learning everything I could about cockers, tuning ,tweaking and building custom cockers and now if I build or rebuild a cocker for someone it doesn't leave my hands until it's a screaming machine...) So now I'm at square one again and looking (already) for everything i can find out about mags and how to mod, tweak and tune them to perfection...without access to a full machine shop.
I've made a few of my own parts using the basest of basic tools and no access to CAD software (dremmel, etc.)

Now comes the questions...some specific to Emags some just general stuff...:
are there any aftermarket triggers availabe?
    any software upgrades available?
different boards that have more options?
The best place to start learning about tweaking and customizing my Emag?(website instead of a board)
Anything I need to avoid?(the list of DON'T DO's that always crop up with any type of gun)
anything that I should do right away?
Are there any serious problems with these guns I need to watch for?
on and on and on...you get the picture...it's kind of like dealing with a 10 year old newb with his first Wal~Mart spyder....I know NOTHING.But unlike Jr. I am ready to learn.

Just a little background info...I'm 36 and I've only been playing for 3 years but have been managing a field for just about 2 years. So far I haven't played competition ball (no time) but am listed as an alternate and gun tech for one of our home teams.
Up to now I have been specializing in doing cocker builds/rebuilds and tweaking eblades.I have also done a few other custom guns for myself,I have the worlds fastest pump gun in prototype right now,my gun collection runs around 10-12 guns at any time and also I do a lot of general gun repair work...just thought I'd throw that stuff in so everyone knows I'm not just another 12 year old kid wasting your time...

    thanks!!!!!

what software do you have know? The newest soft. is 3.2, they tweakin is playing with the trigger pull , get the trigger how you want it , short and light or long and hard , the emag is a very nice marker ,Look in my sig . I have had mine for around 3-4 months and love mine One reason is that it has e mode , mech AND hybrid

Is your emag used and how old? I would reccomend sending it into a teach on ao , tunaman , he will replace all old orings , tune and make the emag rip like crazy , trust me he knows what he is doing and likes his markers Fast

if you got anymore qestions just ask

      There is the Fireblade Trigger

As stated 3.2 software is current

I think there is only one board that AGD produces, PTP might have more, and I have heard that you can hook an eye up to an E-mag with the right stuff, although I don't know for sure.

If you find a website on tweaking an E-mag tell me, I just got mine a week ago.

Things you shouldn't do are get it wet, lose parts, and leave it around to collect dust.

First thing you should do is air it up, play hard, and laugh when you can still use an electro gun with no battery and no one else can. Winning and having fun are definite plusses. (I don't know how to spell plusses, how sad is that...)

I have not heard of any serious problems but I am no expert.

Don't be like me, I always try to figure out how guns work and then something goes horribly wrong no matter what I do...

What I want to do with my E-Mag (OT I know) is get the rail ULE'd, get a snatchgrip, a Fireblade Trigger, A ULE CF Body and a ULE Warp body (think X-mag) and then get it all anno'd a sexy color, with both bodies matching so that one of them isn't off when mounted on the frame.

Oh yeah, welcome to the E-mag world and in case this is your first mag, they are awesome.

EDIT: Not like it says my first mag in the title or anything duh! Lol.

the fireblade is deffinately a nice trigger. there are some other aftermarket triggers out there ( logic lt3, and the tl63) but those are no longer being made. you can find info about the fireblade either here in the dealer forum, or at www.logicpaintball.com.

as said before, there is only one board available, the newest software being 3.2.
(some have modifeid them to use morlock boards, but those arent just drop in upgrades and reqire a custom fit.)

best spot to learn about tweaking...right here on AO. you can find any info you want on an emag just by doing a search. also, al of the reliable techs and parts makers for mags are here on the forums as well and can give you help, or get parts made for you.

there are some interesting tech articles and videos at www.zakvetter.com that is the AO's very own z-man's site.

there is also the agd store at www.airgun.com which has owner's manuals and drawings of mags in their tech resources section.

ive been using mags for nearly 4 years now, and ive found that the AO is the best place to find any info on them.

have fun with your new marker, it will bring you years of enjoyment of eliminating opponents!

sorry this is off subject but i tend to make too many new threads so o well.

This is a repeat of what people said, but I thought I would sum up what you can upgrade:

            Performance:
            Trigger (fireblade)
            Software (if it's not 3.2)
Tune your lvl10 to your liking (reaally soft if want, a little harder to be more reliable and use less air)
X-valve (not really a performance upgrade, just a little lighter)

            Looks:
            CNC battery housing
            rouge snatch grip
grip panels (frymarker makes some nice)
            Deadlywind Karta body

I might have missed something, but that's basically it. You can't really do much to an emag performance vice. All that you have to tune is the lvl10, which is a one time thing to do.

I've been so busy lately i haven't had time to really mess with my e-mag yet...all I've been able to do is gas it up and play and that's only been a couple of times.I've put about 2 cases through it so far but not much on the field.
I'm having problems with it frequently chopping paint (it does have a LVL-10) and I can't figure out how to get it stopped...It's not the hopper feeding too fast,I've tried everything from an x-board revvy to an egg to a halo to a warp feed with a Halo on it and it still chops quite a bit even when I set the MROF down. it's not the paint...it's not the barrel either..i'm using a freak with stainless inserts and always do a good match.
also it regularly fails to recock properly (swab down the barrel and reset the bolt) which can get annoying...
                      Any suggestions???what am I missing?
I've tried pressure ranging from 150psi (I KNOW that's way too low) to 850psi to make it more efficient and easier on paint without muc luck...
it still has the stock software as well...I'm planning on upgrading IF I find more time to play otherwise the mag may wind up going away along with all of my other guns but one and most of my other equipment.
Right now I'm considering sending it in to someone for a good going through/rebild since I don't know what I'm doing YET.I'm quite sure I could do a simple rebuild myself but i still don't know what tricks and tweaks work and what can be done to it internally besides a basic rebuild.

                      what i'm thinking about doing:
either new software or replacing the board with something that with eyes (Morlock??)

different trigger or whole new frame (IF the Y-grip or a custom Z-Grip type frame can be found)

X-Valve (If it's any better than the E-Mag valve)

Hard lining the airline forward and down to the airsystem so it's out of the way...I still haven't found any position that the airline isn't in my way right now.

replacing the battery pack with a custom made rechargable lithium battery pack.

more milling and re-anno or plating (to lighten it up without losing the cocker threads or too much of the PTP look)(BIG BIG MAYBE)

HELP!!!!!! I'm totally lost on what I can or should do besides sending it off or spending a ton of money on parts that don't need replacing...I would rather do what I can myself and learn a little along the way.Right now I feel like an idiot.....

                      thanks

                        Hey harpo,
It sounds like you need to tune the level 10. I would start from scratch and do a fresh install or whatever. Did you get the full level 10 kit when you got your e-mag? If not, that could be a problem. Here is a very detailed instruction guide for level 10

Its a long read, but it's stuff you should know.
I wouldn't send it away to someone just yet, I bet you could fix it up.

You were asking for some websites, here is an excellent one with all you need to know about emags.

There is a Level 10 link there too, check it out.

As far as upgrades go, there arent many for the e-mag. You cannot change the trigger frame. You can get it milled to be lighter and take off the hump in the back, but thats about it. There are no replacements, and y grips wont work. There are some replacement triggers out there, the fireblade being the main one.
The Xvalve is purely cosmetic/wieght and offers no advantage over the stock valve.. I think you save 3 ounces or something silly like that. It's just made out of all alluminum instead of half alluminum and half SS.
I dont know if I would replace the battery if I were you, I think if that was really feasible it would have been done before. I think the stock one is fine and gives you pleanty of shots.

Like I said, there really isn't a whole lot you can do to a PTP Emag. Software and Trigger is just about it. You cant do much else without losing the PTP look.

You can try the morlock/predator 2 and eyes. It would be complicated and I've never seen eyes on a PTP mag before, but hey, its possible!

                        Good luck with your e-mag.
