I know absolutely nothing about welding, but I do know that the Phantom has a relatively thin aluminum body. That might not be the best for what you want but like I said, I know nothing about welding. My opinion is don't do it to a Phantom, it's too cool to mess with, get a M-98, or something else that can be beat up and still work.Originally posted by billabongboy13jWhen i get may phantom i have a mod idea to make it look like a thompson http://www.auto-ordnance.com/ao_m1sb_f.html . you can weld aluminum but you just need to be very skilled to do so if its thin but i might just get the phantom and put a wooden pump handel on it like the thompsonComment

When welding aluminum you really need to be careful that it doesn't warp, more so than steel. Especially with thin aluminum.Comment

How much do you REALLY want it to look like a thompson, and how big is your wallet?
the obvious fact is that its weird for you to want to use a pump gun as a base to turn into a tommygun. it makes so much more sense to use a mag as a base, but whatever floats your boat.
This site has a couple different Thompson copnversions, both for automags I believe,:
The Cushman's conversion at the bottom quite frankly looks like crap. Its really just a very cartoony looking plastic cover that goes over your mag.
Or, for something more complicated, much better looking, and possibly much more expensive, you could buy a Tokyo Marui Thompson M1A1. Heres a review:
Find information about the Airsoft Retreat forums. For years, this was the biggest airsoft forum in the community. Learn about ASR now.
You can buy wooden replacement stocks, and theres a 1928 Thompson conversion kit for this model as well if you prefer the look of the classic "gangster" version. If you REALLY wanted something one of a kind, you could buy a deactivated real Thompson SMG. Dewat guns are perfectly legal to own and I believe Thompsons usually run about $500 I think.
All these option could be used as parts for your conversion, if you cant tell, Ive thought about doing this myself
. However, I think you would need a professional machinist, someone like Doc, to do the actual fitting and assembly. Good luck

A sniper 2 might be the better alternative for pump mod because it already has the shquare ish body. But as stated before, if you're gonna go so far as to make it look "perfect" you might as well make some kind of a real drum fed hopper for it. The mag is nice because the rail is easy to add parts on to, even if they aren't much more than a tube."This is bat country!"
