air mortar

i was watchin a video on WW2 in World Studies the other day and saw a clip of someone firing a mortar. and an idea of a CO2/HPA powered mortar came into my head. the idea is to have a rather large valve, similar to a cocker valve but much bigger diameter, to sit cupseal and spring down. when you drop the projectile into the chamber, it hits the cupseal as a cocker hammer would opening the cupseal and allowing air to flow out and behind the projectile, propelling it out of the chamber. you would need a rather light spring, and or a heavy projectile. i attached a pic to help explain it. if you have any suggestions or questions, please tell me.

and its semi posted in deep blue, something similar's going on there. but same problems, you'd need to figure angles, and make sure the paint breaks

as far as figuring angles goes, im jsut talkin mostly to mess with. doesnt have to be horribly accurate. and as for paint breakage, i was thinking a modified paint grenade or something along the lines of that.

i know there are other mortars out there. but my design, as far as i know, is not being utilized in any of them. see with mine, you dont load it and wait then fire it on command. you load it, the projectile slides down hits the valve and is propelled right back out the way it came in. it fires itself basically. i cant access the specs on the tippmann ordanance mortar because it requires a password, which i dont have.
