    My next project

I'm still tweaking with the spydermag, trying to get it to work reliably. It short strokes some times, and the rail I have is all cut up so it does not hold the valve quite right, but that is beside the point.

The next project of mine is going to be making an intelliframe out of high strength resin. The material is lighter than aluminum and comes in a while color perfect for painting. The same goes for making the rail out of the resin as well.

Its 20 dollars for materials to make the molds, and depending on the materials used anywhere from $10-20 worth of resin. I don't know if it will hold up to play,so I still need to test it to see. Rough guess would say you could get a classic rail in the 4-5 oz range when made out of the materials I am looking at.

and I forgot, you can pull like 100-150 parts from the molds before you would need to make a new set of molds

I dunno, I think if it was feasable, then Heather Frymarker would have already done it. In fact, she did make a zgrip.
I doubt resin would be very durable.

I dont know how successful this frame was, maybe you should ask her. (BTW if you have any questions about molding or whatever she is defently the person to ask)

the moving sear will wear at the rail, meanwhile the same thing will happen to the frame...

also, the tolerances most likly wont be that great...

but what the heck, I made a wooden y grip awhile ago.... fun while they last!

i honestly think a gripframe would hold up...i mean the sear isn't even touching the gripframe really.....

Where do you get the materials for molding and the resin itself? I may have to pick up this hobby for my latest project

Strength wise the resin has a higher tensil strength than the aluminum, and where on the grip frame does the sear rub on it? if need be I could put a small piece of metal channel in there so its metal on metal.

The only problem is I don't have an intelliframe right now so I can't make a mold from one. Unless someone wants to lend me one so I can pull a mold its going to have to be a little while until I can afford one.

Well its a 1:1 replica, the materials to make the mold will make a identical copy of it, well not copy but a negative of the piece. The material does not shrink, so it will hold itself to the shape.

I use to work for a company that made a sliding rail inside a metal tube, high tolerances for the pieces, and they used the same materials to make the molds.

                        Grip frame? From resin?

                        Ok fella's i must add.

what ever happened to the days when aluminum was the lightest material?

And uf your going for light i know a guy who made a grip frame out of some nice liquid fiberglass he found at a hardware store around here. i swear it made his mag like a pound lighter.

But if your makein it outta resin rock on i hope to hear how it holds

i honestly think the rail would be more durable than the intelliframe. there wouldn't be any protrusions, it would be thiker all around, and it would be pretty simple to mill out the required slots and holes.

i think it would be awesome if the middle of my marker was clear.

i want one. would you charge around 10 bux or so? if so. i call dibbs on one.
