standard feed into an offset verticle feed?

I was wondering if it would be possible to cut off the standard feed as close to the body as possible, and grind down the remaining feedneck attached to the body, so its flush with the rest of the body; and then cut the large remaining part of the feedneck at an angle, and use a dremmel to grind the end of it so its rounded inward. And then weld it back onto the body in a verticle position; and finnaly drill a hole in it to vent the blowback. what i am picturing would be kinda like the feedneck on a 98 custom.

i dont know if it would affect the feedrate or if the barrel would align properly or if it would warp the breach. if anybody has done this already than please feel free to post your results or pictures or whatever.
would a verticle feedneck adapter for a spyder fit on it?

I don't have a mag. yet. and i hope to get one in the near future. and maybe try this project.

    my first post! yay!

it just occured to me that you could probably also weld it on in a horizontal position and trim it down so that you have a warp feed body.

BTW, how do you insert the smiley faces and stuff?

There is actually someone already offering this service. Check in Dealers Forum for more info, I cant quite remember who it is at the moment. To do smilies, just click on them.

That was it, I was thinking it was him but I didn't want to say so for fear of confusing people. He is a good guy, while I personally havent dealt with him he has been very helpful to me around here if I had some questions, and seems like a good guy. If you want something done I'd recommend him.

Here's a few pictures of how I did it. >

http://www.automags.org/forums/showthread.php?t=158113 Powder coated Vert BETA (scroll to the bottom)

AGD silver solders the feed tubes on, which is a standard procedure with stainless steel w/ 45% silver. Chances are you won't find it in your local hardware store, you'll need to go to a welding supply.

I TIG weld them on using purged gas and .030 tungsten. It generates very little heat which keeps it fairly clean inside the body. The real trick is cleaning up the inside of the body after the mod is done. I had to made a tool for this as none are available that I found.

I also machined a universal jig that I can set up and weld left or right hand, Vertical or Warp feed necks. These helps line everything up for welding. I would like to see how AGD does it.

The feed neck has to be two pieces welded together because a direct feed at this angle would never work. The key is getting the correct length on (1 of 2) the tube that attaches to the body. If this is wrong I suspect it would cause jams.

I also machine a 1" radius on the feed tube for a clean fit. You attempt to "dremmel" this part it well take you a week to do...

Nice thing is you can use the barrels you have.

i looked you up luke on the dealers section and saw the pics and everything. but yeah, they look good and the idea is good, but i didn't have access to the tools needed to do the mod at the time i thought it up. and lately i havent either, i have to do techincal drawing in metal sculpture class. but now the teachers wife had a baby, so now i cant use tools in shop for 2 weeks until he comes back, but atleast we have the best shop in a highschool in california, with every tool and machine that you can imagine. except for crazy specialty jobs that involve ginormous things. seems like everything is keeping me from trying the mod out, also i dont have a mag yet. lookin to get one with an x-valve soon when i have enough cash.
