    Sawing off Feed tube

hey guys, I was wondering what tools you use to saw off the feed tube to make it shorter, i need to make my qloader sit closer to the body.

I'm referring to a left powerfeed automag body btw. :)

any comments on the exact procedure or things I should watch out for would be great also.

You could use a dremel with a fiberglass reinforced cut off wheel. Then a grinding stone to even it out and clean up the edges.

I'd say the dremel idea would work the best, but by the nature of dremels, it will end up being uneven on the first cut, to leave some room (1/4" or so) to grind and sand it down to be even. I'm considering doing the same on my mag, but for a hopper/elbow. So that I don't have to make an extra thread, does the hole in my RF feedneck serve any purpose other than being able to see paintballs? I'm going to cut it so that the elbow is snug with my body, and I'll need to know if I should drill a hole in my elbow to line up with the feedneck's hole.

the hole is there for the powerfeeding action.

Theortically, the air from blowback goes through the hole, creates a vacuum, and sucks the next pb in.

I think that's how it works, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

i watched the automag video a while ago, and i think it said that the blowback causes the ball to bounce up into the wall of the feedneck, then bounce back into the chamber. and the hole was to vent the gas that caused it.
sounds kinda funky to me, so again, correct it if its wrong.

Pipe cutter works best, but if need be, it can be done with a hacksaw, and a file to clean up the edges after cutting. IIRC I think I cut off 3/4"... but I'm not 100% sure. MY only real piece of advice is to make sure the cut is square acroos the top and in comparison to the length of the tube. If that make sense.. I work nights so my thought are a little out of wack.

Wow, I didn't know a pipe cutter would work that well through such thick steel. I used an angle grinder on mine, but then again I was cutting off the WHOLE feedneck, so I had some room to fudge around with.

I used a pipe cutter on my Minimag feedneck--it was a small cutter, and it took about 2 hours, but it worked great! When I was done, I used a Dremel to get the burrs out of the inside and smooth out the edges.
Basically, I wanted my Revvy on an elbow to be a little more low-profile. Now my elbow (ACI) sits just a hair above the mainbody.
All I can say is just double-check your measurements, then check them again. You should have no problems.

I have it down on my gun, pipe cutter worked fine. You just might have to clean it up with some sanding.

                          i used a sawzaw (sp) with a metal-cutting blade

worked great, but you'll need to sand the cut edge so that you wont cut up your elbow
