    emag idea

(not really sure if this has been done or suggested before cos i really dunno what to put as the search criteria for this....)

now i'm assuming that the emag needs such a huge battery cos it has such a big solenoid, and it needs such a huge solenoid cos it has to pull such a high load...

but i was wondering... what if we put a ULT in there? the solenoid won't have to do so much work anymore so we can get away with a weaker solenoid (heck, put a return spring in there too just for good measure). With a smaller solenoid, then we can get away with a smaller battery (mebe a 9volt.. or mebe even a couple of C-cells in a flashlight style configuration).. and therefore a smaller and more comfortable foregrip...

this should theoretically kill 2 birds with 1 stone... first you get a lighter more comfortable battery pack (heck, if yer used to the huge grip, u mite even be able to add a gas route thru the grip as well).. and second, trigger bounce won't be such a problem in mechanical mode so no worries of being tourny legal

I haven seen the inside of a e-mag battery area, but I believe that the battery isn't that big and if it is then it is probally for really long battery life.

Sense the noid has to push / pull with all the extra weight of the trigger rod, and push that kinda heavy on/off it needs some serioous power behind it (hence the huge battery)... Personally, I like the foregrip as a battery. But if you don't, then all you have to do is get some wires, and put the through the gun and mount the battery on your tank or something. And then get a normal foregrip.Tom kaye used this really expensive battery for the emag becuase it does not have a memory. Aka, when you charge it half way, it wont only let you charge it half way again.. Such as a cell phone, most of them use cheap batteries, and they tell you "for best performance, completely drain and charge the battery 3 times' or something like that.,..

or my homemade logic framec emag for that matter. both uses 9V batteries

This has been discussed quite a bit back when the ULT first came out.

Bottom line is you NEED all that trigger return force offered in stock RT config to return that large heavy sear and soleniod combo. The ULT just can't get that job done as well resulting in slower cycling times.

yes yes, but say if we find a smaller, lighter solenoid, with its own return spring even, then it'd be possible no?

what i'm proposing here are drop-in mods. just drop in a ULT, a new solenoid (will require a little soldering, but thats easy) and a new battery pack (ok that will require building from scratch, but with a smaller battery, you'd have more freedom in design) and possibly (if needed) a polished sear with a roller bearing axle.....

              Sure, go for it.

Actually, we saw the best performance by far using a pneumatic soleniod and a ram. That was how we proginally designed the Emag to work but for whatever reason, it got changed later by AGD.

It might work. Try this solenoid (just need to get a solenoid mounting nut made, try Luke here on AO).

Tubular Pull Type Solenoid, 1.00 in (25.4mm) LENGTH x 0.50 in (12.7mm) DIAMETER, MSS S-10-50

                  Here's an even better idea:

You're carrying around a huge nitro tank as it is, so use air to run the sear and just have the battery run the control circuitry. Then it runs on a 9v and lasts 15,000+ shots because it's just flipping a .8 watt control valve.

It worked for me. I'm not the first to do it either.
