How to attach a folding stock to a mag...

Alright. I love having a stock, however it is quite inconvienient whilst playing indoors, or moving quickly through brush (I'm a bit clumsy...). I have a thought, and I was hoping someone may have an idea how to make it a reality. The stock in the picture I have available. The squared off part is two pieces and can be removed (They are held together by two 10/32). My though is to drill into my auto-mag rail, and tap into it. Now my only problem is I need a drill press, and how in the world do I do a CLEAN and straight tap into metal? It's usually crooked or ends up semi stripped. Does anyone know how to properly tap? I can get ahold of a drill press by pulling a few favors at my school, but I'm lost as far as tapping. Any and all comments are more than welcome, thanks!

i'd say the best wat to do it is to get a back bottle adapter and use that as your mounting point rather than fiddling with your rail. then if you need to you can make an adapter piece to act as a union between the stock and the asa.

I originally had planned on that, however I'd rather not mount an asa, and just straight get the stock on the rail.

        i tapped my rail...

i used a hand drill, that was just charghed, put it to max torque and not that fast, clamped down the rail, and then did it slowly and carefully.

to tap it use a hand twisting deal... i dont know the exact name for it,... but definatley do it by hand...

I am getting ready to do the same thing to mine. I am using the JCS MP stock. The picture you have is a JCS stock but it is one of there adjustable ones.

Alright, all done. I decided to just drill the rail and tap into it, thus using the stock's original screws and placement. Had a shave a bit off the stock to get it to swing, but doesn't look half bad now. I'll post pics as soon as I can get some.

OKay, I redid what I did before ...

The stocks from JCS are really nice but the universal fit ones have a big block with 8 holes in it so it can fit almost any gun. It doesn't, however, have the pattern to fit the back bottle holes for a .68Automag. I think all those holes look ghetto anyway and the block is too thick besides. This is how I now have folding stock v 2.0 ... I used the screw hole that was furthest back (on the stock mount) and tapped it for 1/4 20, then I cut off the rest of the metal in front of that hole. I then drilled and tapped a new hole behind it. There is enough metal there so you don't have to drill all the way through. I used a bottom tap but I'm pretty sure you could do it with a regular tap too. I then grinded and sanded it down to my liking. Of course, I'm going to polish it and have it ano'd but I wanted it to be obvious what I did for the sake of the pictures.

PS I'm left handed so this works out perfectly for me but it might hit your hand if you're right handed when it's folded up.

                  Update

I polished the peice and got it back from anno and it looks spectacular. I thought I would post a pic although it's hard to make all that black look as good as it does in person. I tried to match the same shape as the Intelliframe and I think I did a good job of it ...

That's a sweet mag. You definately need a black body though. It would complete it.

Thanks ... I always liked the stainless body though and I've had it for 10 years so it wouldn't be the same gun if I changed any more of it (c: Besides, It took me forever to get a right hopper standard body back then, I had to call AGD themselves and get them to ship one to National Paintball just for me. I *am* planning on putting together another 'Mag, and that one will be triple black.
