    General Air Safety Question

Are copper plumbing fittings safe to use for transporting air for human consumption. That is to say, if I were building, say a snorkle, could I safely breath through it?

I dont see why not. But you wouldnt be able to breath if you were under say 2 feet of water. Your body couldnt pull the air down.

You would have to put a very LOW pressure through it.

If you were to build a snorkel, just go buy one.

Low pressure eh? I'll just attatch an LPR at the top then . Just joking, so you think its safe eh? Do copper fittings flake? Will I get these types of things in my lungs?

Well if they flaked, would we use them for water lines?

If your worried, install a filter.

Alright, I heard that copper emits poisonous gasses at relatively low temps so I went with brass for my project. Thanks for the help.

But if those temps are higher than what you'd confortably put in your mouth, who cares?

I hope you're not homebuilding a SCUBA system...

The statement of building a snorkle was completely hypothetical, I just wanted to get the point accross that I will be transfering air for human consumption through a metal.
I've got it all figured out now, but thanks for the comments.

Dunno, but I've got a sneaking suspicion that this should be on a different sort of board. Copper to breathe through and the worry of slightly elevated temperatures... C'mon, dude, at least try to be subtle, amirite?

Seriously though, don't be going to a hardware store to get your bowls, man. Get a glass or metal bowl intended for that stuff and build the rest around it. It's just too sketch otherwise.

G'luck with your little project. Peace.

Unless we have clarification, it seems I overlooked the obvious.

With all the crap and chemicals you'd be inhaling anways, what's the problem with a couple more?
