    Cutting Plexiglass

What have you found cuts plexiglass the cleanest and fastest? I have been using a small, handheld jig-saw (one of the U shaped ones) and its not cutting it cleanly, nor quick. I would use a band saw...but I dont have one.

Straight cuts - Table saw w/ BRAND NEW SHARP BLADE

Curved Cuts - Jigsaw w/ SHARD BLADE

The biggest thing when cutting plexi is using a sharp blade, or else it'll chip and crack....

-Learned this when i was on the highschool robotics team...we used plexi and Lexan all the time...

If we knew the dimensions, we uswed to have the place we bought it from cut it for us....mad it a lot easier...

take the plexiglass and some clamps and clamp it to a piece of wood. from there, use a saw to cut it. it shouldnt crack this way, this is the way i made my grips.

A standard circular saw with a good carbide tipped blade is great for big cuts. For the small stuff I use a Bosch orbital jigsaw. Go slow speed or the cut will melt together.

Could you get me a pic of what the jigsaw looks like. Because my tools are pretty limited here.

I used to use a jigsaw with a new wood cutting blade in it and it worked ok. The metal cutting blade with t he finer teeth didnt work well, and I was surprised that the coarser wood one did. Keep the peice secure, it will bounce around.

I have also seen a roto-rip cut through plexiglass like butter, but have never tried it myself.

Well since my parents own a glass shop, I use a cutter made for cutting plexiglass. Its just a small razor blade that scores it, you score it around 8 times (depending on the thickness) and then break it off. You can sand it then to make it smooth, but that method has never failed me. We only use a jig saw when cutting lexan.

Id suggest the SSS methiod. Scoring, Snapping, And Sanding. Rules to live by when youve worked at True Value for too long in the glass department. It really depends on the cut, this methiod even works on cuves, when sanded it will get you the cleanest cut.
