    Mainbody Strength Requirements

What are the strength/ pressure needs of an automag mainbody ? I ask because I was wondering if it would be possible to mold a mainbody using a fiber resin material- similar to a bondo resin.
    Thanks

      pressure needs?

The body of a Mag holds no air pressure. I would recomend getting asteal ring insert like they use in the Miicromag for the body though for the bolt to stop against.

I guess the major stress points will be where the Feedneck is and where the valve and barrel fit in the body. The feedneck for obvious reasons(Hint: it has to support your hopper) and the valve and barrel because they are submitted to sudden wacks and dings. I know there are AGD slugs out there if you want a custom mill or look. I don't know about the actual amount of stress that gets put on these.

Thanks guys. From the looks of things, it might be possible; so I might as well give it a shot. I'll be sure to keep you updated on the progress.

QFT. The body will wear hardcore without that insert.

Before I get started, would anyone happen to know the thread equivalents of shocker, cocker, or impulse threaded barrels, angel threaded necks, and the thread for whatever the best detent to use would be- for tapping purposes.
              Thanks again

Any reason you're doing that rather than buying a slug body?

Why not buy a slug ? Well 1) I don't have a mill or access to one. 2) I just want to see if I can do it. 3) If it works, it will produce a body that is lighter and should be just as durable as a ULE mainbody, plus I'll be able to produce them in any shape or variation that I wish. Also, if this works, it may lead to the production of frames, rails, bolts, and other accessories of the same vein.

Also...can you tell me where to get a sluggo body? If you can, you'll get a cookie, and maybe a sticker...ooohhhh!

Sluggo's are being built right now, last I heard.

If you are wanting to create a new look, you should use the ule body as a base. The bolt moves at a fairly high speed and needs a good point to stop at and that point is going to have a ton of stress on it. If you do make a new body, this point needs to be reinforced greatly. Also if you do build this, I have to recomend that you are very careful when you test it and try to keep the gun a few feet away from you.

AWESOME...didn't know they still made sluggo's

And that carries a good point...if that valve somehow comes dislodged from your body and rail theres gonna be a bolt and on off assembly flying through the air and the valve will probably whip around for a while while all the air vents from your tank through the powertube and on-off...could be quite dangerous...

good luck, don't blow yourself up...

Hey, if you do happen to blow yourself up or something. Can I have your Shocker and Ghillie suit? Just kidding, Be really careful doing this. Notice I didn't use my Auto-talon Sunday. I didn't want anyone to get hurt since it would chrono at around 400 if liquid CO2 had gotten in it(likely since it was so cold).

Seriously though, I remember seeing a 'Cocker barrel thread tap on Punishers(I think) for like $80

EDIT: Here is a page with autococker measurements including a barrel section. http://haveblue.org/tech/autococker/

Thanks guys. Don't worry, I'll be as careful as I can with this. I realized last night after my last post that saying that I could mill a frame that would be lighter than the ULE frame is probably stretching things a bit, but it should be at least as light as one.
Again, I'm not doing this project just to have a mag with a custom look. I'm working on this just to see if it can be done and because I'm really bored. And maybe because I want a tac-one but don't want to cough up that much money yet. Who know, I may fail, and I may succeed. Either way I'm going to give it a shot.

Um...as i was laying in bed last night i was thinking...the ony part you'd really have to worry about flying anywhere is the bolt, as the rest of the valve is mounted to the rail with the field strip screw...
