Total Cost
Well, You can get 2 Dye membranes off Ebay for about $13 which is cheaper than just buying one. The rest of the material shouldn't cost more than $20. The lights on mine cost like $5 each, because of the type and quality of light I used. That is the easiest part, buying the parts.Originally posted by number1zerooh yea thats gona be one of the first things i do when i get my gun right after the the new body and frame how much do u think that mod would cost all together or don't u kno
Drilling the frame, if you go that route, is the next hardest. For doing it the first time, mine came out pretty nice. Nothing noticable to most people, but I'm a perfectionist. Drilling is not hard to get done.
The hardest and most critical part of the mod is the soldering on the board. The board is very small to start with and the SMD's used are even smaller. To make this mod work, you have to take off the existing SMD's without losing their contact points, then solder on the wiring. That's even harder than taking off the SMD's. That is where I ran into a problem on my first try. I had one light's power wiring keep coming off the board once I went to install it. The light would work before install, but then come off. This last time I decided to use a speck of glue over the top of the soldered contact point after soldering the wire and now the light doesn't work.
You have to be very careful not to fry the board through the whole process. Mine works fine, other than I can't see the one light if I want to change my settings. Luckily it's set great and doesn't need to be changed, but I'm pretty frustrated with the whole thing and a novice electrician/solderer. I'm pretty positive the power wire can be fixed for that light, but I've lost my patience with it. Again, my gun still rocks out on the playing field.
I will get my hands on another stock board and frame and do the mod again. I've got some bids on boards over on Ebay, just for this purpose. It was fun and in a way relaxing to do.Comment
