well, the legend does indeed use a poppet. 
on a side note, i wonder if this design would infringe on a spool valve patent?
i think it's an interesting design and i'd really like to see one built if for nothing more than a proof of concept.
heck, i'd like to see a scale drawing just to see how big it would have to be.
