    Engraving?

I was wondering wat depth you guys would recommend for engraving some letters into a steel mag body. I can do laser engraving if I get a lot of "Don't DO IT"'s. Although I would like to engrave with a little depth to get some good perception for when I powdercoat it.

I am going to get this out of the way and say I'm not going to do it myself, I have a friend who has been engraving for about 4 years now and can handle it.

I went to the place I get all my really fancy saddlery and harness equipment done. To get the deep cut like you were talking about, and like I wanted, they told me they would need a soft metal. After looking over the choices I settled on silver grips with gold inlayed initials and a classic western background pattern (I could have had rubies and sapphires put in too, but... )
Anyway she quoted me 150 per side. I was cool with that and I ordered them, but they came back and said that their silver supplier had upped the silver stock prices and it would be $275 for EACH side. I DONT THINK SO!

If you can get it done, I would be envious and would love to see pics.

Hope you have better luck than I.

Rather than engraving (i suppose it really drops the resale value) you can try to find custom jewel bars. (like the things that say emag) I have a buddy who got ones to say "Los Locos" but i dont know where he got em and he cant remember.

Thats not a bad idea either, and I think professional engraving of the body would up its resale, because I mean how often do you see a classic powerfeed or right or left feed body with engraved letters on it, then powdercoated. This is going to be one sick looking mag and I will post pics in paintball talk along with the name of the project, but I don't want to expose the name of it yet because the name is the same name I am going to have engraved in some wicked cool font on the side.

Well the body is back from engraving and it looks excellent, will get pics up in paitball talk as soon as my body gets back from powdercoating and my frame gets back from anno, completing the gun.
