If you list low profile barbs, would someone suggest a good sealer? My old loctite pipe sealer didn't work and I went back to regular barbs. The low profile look really good though.

What kind of loctite did you use? Was it the liquid stuff (what color?) or was it tape?

From what I hear, there is a kind of lock tite that is like, almost permanant and another kind that is relatively easy to remove (I believe the difference is between the different color locktites, but don't quote me).

EDIT: What exactly happened to your barbs? Were they leaking? Unscrewwing themselves?

Blue is meant to be taken off with hand tools. Red is much stronger. I think you're supposed to apply heat to take it off.

Infact there is a strength grading on the side of the tube, i have 2 tubes of red locktite one with a rating of 234 and one with a rating of 244 if my memory serves me correctly. The higher the number the stronger the adhesion. I also had a different brand of thread lock which was stronger than the red locktite, although this was still amedium strength. Go by the rating not the colour.

Thats good to know - I wonder what stregnth of locktite would be best.

I must find out if a "no heat required" thread locking adhesive would be appropriate, and if so.

From my past experience, Teflon tape or any threadlock tapes are completely out of the question (NO EXCEPTIONS! ). I can only imagine what would happen if a little stray piece of teflon tape got loose into a valve

              The Worklog Begins

'case yall'er interested, this is the gear I'm starting with (I know I said I'd do two intelliframe conversions and one of them is a benchmark - Lets see if I can find some cheap mag parts online and build myself a third mag).

Here are 4 pics of the 2 mags I have to work with

I used "Loctite Pipe Thread Sealer". It is a white paste-looking goo that should set up like the stuff you see dried on macro-line fittings. It could have been old. Maybe I didn't let it sit long enough or get the fittings tight enough. Is there an easy way to tighten those things? No real failure except that they leaked like sieves. I thought about some blue thread locker, but at that point I concluded that my layout was not going to get much out of the low profiles and I was ready to get the pneumag cranked up.

                  Ah ok then,

The blue stuff will be used on these markers first then, if that doesn't work, further options shall be explored. :)

reguarding aany locktite and the low profile barbs. It works, don't mess up. You CANNOT remove the barbs.

Do you tighten the low profile barbs with needle nose pliers?
