Ok I Need Help, I Have A 12 Yr Old Automag That Hasnt Been Used In Almost That Long

I was heavily into my paintball in the UK for many years in the UK and played for the team fly fishing by jr hartley however i havent played in about 11 years. Now splitting my time between Japan and Australia I am very keen to get back into the sport. I have a 12 year old automag that was running a bottom line co2 (all they had at the time) and a vertical co2 expansion tank. Now from what limited research i have done it seems that this is all woefully out of date and i am wondering what upgrades are available for this marker and if the cost of all these is going to outweigh just going out and spending 1000 bucks on a new high end electronic marker. Please lend me your technical expertise on this problem

If you like your mag there are plenty of options that won't cost $1000 to get it running fast and competitive. However you probably will be replacing quite a few parts. I suggest checking out the Automags forum on www.pbnation.com - In that forum there is a sticky on how to make the mag fast. The sticky coveres everything like Xvalves, Emag lowers, electro frames, and (my personal favorite) pneumatic conversions. Look to pick up used parts as they are always dependable.

As far as pure performance ups I might suggest the following and their price range:
One thing you will DEFINATELY need is a HPA system to prevent freezeup when firing quickly. - $50 to $200
Xvalve with Level 10 and ULT (requires HPA) - $200
Emag lowers or other Eframes - $100 to $250
    Pneumatic frames (doesn't require xvalve) - $150
    A decent hopper - $40 to $100

Alot of other upgrades are mainly for weight and looks.

one thing to keep in mind that is if his automag is that old he may need to send it in to agd to have a lvl ten installed not sure what level that was but if its 7 or above your fine.

its alot cheaper to just find a used ULE RT Pro or Tac 1 here in the forums then to try and up grade a old mag. You basicly putting together a whole new gun anyway.

There's nothing wrong with running CO2 on a classic 'Mag. If you can upgrade to HPA cheaply great, if not keep it CO2.

I love my Intelliframe. I wish they had these 12 years ago. $100

Level 10 kit is not a must, but it's nice. $80 or so.

That's about it. As far as mech guns go, a classic 'Mag can still keep up with anything else, like a Spyder or a Tippmann 98.

          P.S. If you're in Australia a lot, you might want to look for pump 'Mags. I hear tell the reason for the pump 'Mag is so AGD could import 'Mags into Australia when the country have prohibited semi markers. There might be quite a few used in pawn shops and such. They make great pump guns. Pump kits would sell well in the US too (c;

Just get a decent ULE mag with ULT ($350) an HPA tank ($100) and a hopper ($60) and you'll be set to fire as fast as you can. If you really need the electro feel or firing modes, then look into additional frames ($150-$250).

But a performance MAXED out complete mag setup shouldn'y run much more than $550-$700 depending on the parts. And then you're still shooting one of the most reliable markers ever. The great thing about the mag setup is you can slowly upgrade to a maxed out mag rather than dropping $1000 on a high end...

Take you mag and troll the forums for upgrades:
            Retro with LX- $150
            ULT - $40
            ULE body - $90
            ULE rail - $50
            foregrip - $25
            A mech, pneu, or E frame - $75-250
            Tank - $75-$100
            Hopper - $50

people will hate me for saying this so bluntly but... its really not worth upgrading your old gun. like was stated above you will be replacing every part of the gun anyway, and to buy them all seperate would be super expensive. just go here.
              the mag smith
the go to markers (on left tab) and go to RPG Paradigm Pro
right there you basicly have a top of the line mech mag, rouge operates the sight and is active on these fourms and hes great at customer service.
