I am in a bit of hot water on this...

I recently aquired an A4 Fly. The only problem aside from it being uber-dirty was and is a biggy. The eye cover screws are stripped to heck I cannot move them. They look like they were either 2mm or 5/64 heads (allen wrench of course). How would I go about removing them? BBT refused to do it, and I cannot find an Easyout (stripped screw remover) that small. I am stumped

    Thanks fellas,

    Nick

The head is stripped? Can you cut a notch and use a regular screwdriver?

Head is purddy much completely shot. I thought about notching it and goin at it with a flat head, but it is a 2mm allen head and that is dang small. I am scared to hurt the gun. That might be what I end up doing though.

      Thanks,

if that doesnt work superglue an allen key to it and see if you can get enough force to remove it. that small you might not have enoough surcage area , but its worth a shot and a 50 cent allen key.

Next question.... why do you need to take the eyes off?

Tried the superglue thing yesterday to no avail, forgot to mention that

I do not need to take them out, I need (really just want) them in. I bought it with a NIB Pred with Laser eyes, and the stock board/eyes were removed before I got the gun.

Thanks for the suggestion. Any other ideas? Should I try my local machine shop?

drill press, a left-handed, cobalt or nitro-carburized drill bit, and somebody who knows what they are doing to drill out the screws in reverse. usually the stripped screw will spin itself out, or spun out with an easy out.

where do I get the bit though? I tried literally twelve places and they do not have bits small enough. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I normally TIG weld a new stainless screw to the stripped one. This applies a little heat to the screw and provides a new screw head, works great. I would NOT try any other welder than a TIG though.

                  my .02$

craftsman makes a set of phillips "stripped head removers" (I think thats what they are called) They are well worth what ever I paid for them. They work great for the vert asa on mags. You might want to see if they make a smaller size for you.

Good idea! I just need to know where to find a tig welder. Is this somthing that a local shop might have? Are they usually at equip rental places? That sounds like it would be just what I need.

tried that. I checked for lone bits and also sets. They have sets everywhere, my dad has a bunch, they just do not have a 2mm bit. Stupid WDP and their tiny friggin screws Thanks for the suggestion though. I think I am gonna find a way to TIG weld it to a new head like Luke said.

If you can find it, you could use a almost fitting torx screwdriver, or grind the sides down a bit so you can hammer it into the hex of the screw. It should get just enough grip to get that sucker. If this method fails, well then the TIG solution would be your best bet.

I might just try to find a torx. Good idea, then if that fails I will have someone do a TIG weld for me. Thanks for the idea!

It worked!!!! I owe you one

Bought 2.5mm torx heads and tapped em in with a hammer. I used a wrench to get the screws out. Worked like magic.

Thanks to everyone for all help/suggestions,

                              No problem dude

The torx trick is something i picked up when i was tinkering with RC cars. It's a "if all else fails" option, but it usually does the trick. I also used it on a stripped screw for a DM4 eye cover where i had to grind down a torx bit to fit trough the hole.
