    1/8-27NPT Tap

Anyone have a good 1/8-27NPT Tap just sitting around that they can part with? Not in the mood to buy a brand spanking new one when I know a few of you tinkerers out there have one that's just gathering dust.

    PM me please... Thanks.

wish I could help out, I only have one. it's probably cheaper to buy one than ship it. Look on ebay too.

Local Hardware store does not have it... so if I get one I'll have to pay shipping anyways.

I'll figure it out... thanks for the advise pneumagger.

I got a set of taps .125-1.5 inch npt thread for 30$ at northern equipment. I know harbor freight, lowes, homedepot, ace hardware, and mcmaster carr all sell them. If you cant find one local I dont care to buy one and ship it to you at cost. Just pm me if you cant find one

How can you not find a common tap in California? Ya gotta have an MSC or Granger or something near you.

Why don't you buy a tap and die kit? You might as well even if you're only going to use is a few times in your life. Tools are cool.

Here's one from Enco for $3.28. They have superfast same day shipping. Don't forget your drill bit...

Local Lowes and Home Depot do not carry this tap.
The Granger that's close by sells the tap for $30
                  Eco's $3.28 had a $10 shipping

I ended up going to the home depot's website and purchased a Irwin 1/8 NPT tap for $5.69 + $5.65 shipping.

I have a 11/32 (0.340") and a 21/64 (0.325") drill bits. Any recommendations on which bit is best? Or should I go for a different bit? I'm leaning towards 21/64, but wanted to get your input. Thanks guys.

                      Thanks Luke!

According to this CHART, The closest bit I have is the 11/32 (0.340") drill bit... I'll only be 0.001" larger then the R Bit.

a word on taps and cutting tools in general:

don't always look for the cheapest one you can get your hands on. there is a reason why some of them are so cheap. they are junk. second hand chinese cutting tools are flooding the market. in some apllications, it would be fine to us the cheapest one you can get, but if your are looking to do soe precise work, or planning on doing several projects, buy good american made cutting tools.

not just because they are american made, but because they are better. they are better steel, they stay sharper and are made to american standards.

make sure to take your time and align the tap to the hole you have drilled, use cutting fluid, and don't try to take too many turns at once. go in a turn, and back it out, then go in another etc. if you have never tapped anything before, find something you can practice on first.

Do you still need this? I can hook you up with a drill and tap no problem.
