    Fabricating ULT shims

Has anyone out there made their own shims? I can't find mine and I'd rather not order them. I read that 11/32 copper tubing would be the right size. I've got basically ever kind of metal saw that there is, so having the right tool to cut it shouldn't be a problem.

Any one have any pointers on making them?

Finding the right sized material isn't the problem it's getting it cut thin enough to function. Best of luck to you on this.

those things are soooooo thin... like Temo said, good luck cutting one

you can find someone who has level 10 shims, two ult shims are the same width as one level 10 shim.

no, brass tube stock, not copper.

but that is for replacing the shims with one piece of material, after you know how much space you need. basically if you put 5 .005" thick shims in to make your Ult work, then you can replace them with one piece of the brass tubing that is .025" thick.

I mainly use that method on the lvl 10 bolt so that when I break the gun down to clean it, I don't have a bunch of little pieces of metal to keep track of.

if you don't know how big of a shim you need, it can be a tideous process of making it, check it and sanding it down 'till it's right.

some knifemakers use double edged razor blades to make washers for thier folding knives. i wonder if those might work?

does anybody know the thickness off hand?

NM. the digital calipers tell me it's 0.0045" and the micrometer agrees.

you should be able to fashion shims out of double edged razor blades, but for god's sake be careful.

and you will probably want to soften the steel before you try to drill/cut it. just hit it with a torch (or cigarette lighter, the blade is small enough) until it stops changing color and then let it cool to room temp without disturbing it. if you cool it with water, you will re-harden it.

pm me and let me know how many you need. They are not expensive, and not worth even thinking of making
