ion question ( you guys are smart thats why )

so I know this is mag site and i got one but i figured this is the place to get the answer for this question ( ion )
the donut at the back of the ion which has a screw hole and an air in line ( firing air niot return air)
can an ion opperate without this assuming you could seal the firing chamber and tap a hole directly into it you could bypass the donut all together and just hack that piece right off. ultra custom ion is what im thinking ( that or time to buy a new firing can jackass! )
I know with the imag there has to be someone who has an ion kicking around they might beable to figure this out before me. im an idea guy. not a thinker.
    thanx gang

You mean the orange part at the back? if you can seal it you may be able to fix it. If not, just buy a replacement: http://www.buyluckypaintball.com/servlet/Detail?no=65

figured it out. it is useless, function wise. have a new 2 inch can in the works for friday. plus I know this is the mag form but you guys are adults who tinker which is what i am.
new can will be 2 inch stainless ( L7 bolt is short as hell )
air in line will run off the side like a mag style. it will look like an ego and a mag had a retarded ion baby....it will look sweeet. need to make a rail ala mag style for it too. but that wont be for a month or so. all stainless baby.

ah, you didn't mention the L7 (tech-T) bolt. What you plan to do sounds like it will work fine.

it will my only concern is that some say a larger firing can reduces preassure on the paint and makes for a more gentle shot due to increased volume. my can will be ultra small so will I blow paint like a lawnmower?
my theory is no because the ion is constant forward preasure meaning regardless of how large the can is it will have a constant initial firing preasure of 130 psi or whatever it is set at because it is constantly recharging.
larger firing can would be usefull in some other setup where forward air is initiated by trigger pull. but with constant firing preasure I doubt if the can size will make any difference...
any ideas on small can preasure and paint smashing/blowing/barel ****ing/ball not straight shooting?

Although the dump chamber will constantly be refilling, it will not stay at a constant pressure. The flow of the input is nowhere near the output flow.

If I were you, I'd make a dump chamber with approximately the same internal volume. It may not be perfect, but at least it will definitely work.

good idea but far too late. plus the whole point is to reduce size by asmuch visibly as possible.
my new can ( dump chamber ) will only allow 1/16 clearance for the back of the bolt so it is cut to ****.
I am hoping that it will not chop like a monster but with my L7 I am able to knock preasure down to 130 so thats pretty darn good in my opinion.
may cause shootdown at high rof. hopefully not.
if it does I could always make a second chamber that attaches between the banjo and the can to make a chopped can AND a rediculously large dump chamber.
hopefully I wont have to resort to that as the new can will cost me between 2 and 3 hundred bucks ( I would have done it if I new how to thread match ) depending on man hours.
              thanx for the feed back.
once I get my rail made I'll post pics which Im sure mag conoseuirs ( spell check? ) will appreciate as the air in will be off the side alla agd and the 2 inch firing can will be about the same size as a mag valve.

finished but my brother beat me to it.
he came up with the idea. I did R&D to make sure it would work
( total cuI air volume allowable length etc.)
BUT I opted to go to a machine shop to get a whole new can fabbed.
2 weeks later I still had nothing and my brother had finished modding his stock can
and building his body/eye cover/rail. So I conceded defeat and canceled my order
( and saved 2-300$ ) and got my brother to mod a can for me.
then I stripped it and voila.
I was thinking next time I will get a new can fabbed so I can make it a little shorter
and get the air in on the side so it looks more like a mag.
a psuedo Imag or an Ion disguised as a mag ( allbeit a poor disguise )

anyways.... here are a couple pics.
for those of you not familiar with the ion the banjo entering the rear of the firing can is the mod. stock there is a swivel donut adding about 1 inch length and a hex nut adding 1/2 inch length ( ballpark ) AND stock the bolt is the LAST piece that comes apart (gripframe/board/airlines/breach/firingcan/bolt) which makes field stripping a ***** if bolt access is what your going for. NOW all you do is remove the banjo and unscrew the firing can.cutting atleast 5 minutes off of your disassembly time and saving you from losing all your screws on the ground at the field.

I dont really like the ION (I finally got to run alot of paint through one this week) but THAT gun you have there is pretty cool looking. Nice work!

                    thanx. I like it.
got 2 ions so plan on doing ydnas mech mod to one
and then using board to make my mag an e mag.
gonna take the rest of the year though. took me 2 months to
take an angle grinder and a tap to my ion.
and a mech ion and e mag are in a totally different ball park.
wish me luck. Ill post as i succeed. ( or fail )
