SS inset in Tac One rail

Question: What is the Satinless steel insert in the original Tac One rail for? Is it just for decorative purposes only? And, how is it kept in? Glue or some other means? I have one that is going to be sent out for a new anno job and the insert just doesnt fit into my scheme of things. I want to take it out, but I dont want to destroy the rail doing so. Any ideas?
WOW, sigs. Havent seen these in a while here on AO.

Glued on...to cover the sight rail holes. Should come right off with a little effort.

i took out the bushing, then tossed the sob in a pot of boiling water for a bit, then used a razor blade, came right off and left no residue, leave it in the water for a lil while..
