Bout to give up on Pneumag mod!!!

i have been tinkering around with modding my 68 classic valved mag to a pneumag. i am using fabco MSV-2 air valve, MPA-3, clippard QEV, and an Orracle ticklier. everything was/is cycling fine but the MPA-3 with Luke's piston doesn't push sear hard enough to trigger it to fire. using a PMI hp preset tank. is the set screw to keep sear travel to far towards rear of trigger frame needed? any suggestions on what to do before i get anymore irritated and break something on purpose? (i got short fuse and anger problems, lol)

You've tried increasing the LPR pressure?

The piston should have a few hairs of travel before it come in contact with the sear, I've heard this makes a difference.

I havent done this mod yet (waiting on some parts). But I downloaded and watched Pneumagger's "How to install" on this mod and it makes things look simple and he gives SOOOOOOOO much information on the process. Its worth checking out.

How to do a Pnuemag Mod (larger version = 184 Megs)

How to do a Pnuemag Mod (smaller version = 18.4 Megs)

#1 - make sure there is some space between the piston and sear as mentioned above.
#2 - Increase the LPR setting. (MicroRocks ftw)

        and it wouldnt hurt to
#3 - take out your on/off assembly, lube the hell out of it.

Also make sure the ram contacts the lower portion of the sear leg for the most leverage.

You may have one issue, or a combination of a few different ones that are giving you headaches.

I had this problem when I first did this mod... even with the LRP turned up to the point where the pneumatics' seals were about to fail, I still couldn't trip the seal... the solution:

I move the MPA-3 a little lower to push on the lowest part of the sear. It gave MPA more leverage. A slight gap between the piston and the sear also helps (mine has a 1mm gap). Might also consider an RT On/Off since you're working on a classic.

          other problems:
          - Leak someplace in the pneumatics
          - Bent hose or blocked airways
          - Sear may need to be shaved... it might be hitting the MPA when the sear swings to fire.

Let us know how it turns out.

Mine did exactly this when I first tried it out.

First thing- an RT on/off is necessary, I tried this with both the RT and the AIR on/off and no matter what, the AIR on/off would not fire.

As stated above, make sure you leave some space for acceleration of the piston before it hits the sear.

If your MPA is too high, you also might be limiting the movement of the sear itself, ie the sear could possibly bottom out on the top of the MPA. This is actually how mine is set up to limit sear movement, not the grub screw in the back.

use an rt on/off or centerflag on/off. Then you'll be fine.

just to let you guys know i did this mod with a air valve with air on/off and it worked fine. key is to just move the ram further down the sear
