Are you looking for a CNC Machinist?

    Hi All,

Happened to Drop in and take browse through some of your posts and found a need for some machining services out in AO. What I am interested in finding out is if there is enough interest out there for me to consider about a HAAS VF.

Right now I am just fishing for some feedback to see if there is really such a need or not.
Please all suggestions and inquiry should be posted in this thread.

    Thanks!

    Heph

    PS - No PM please!

I myself don't need any work done (yet ), but your services may be needed in a short time. Rogue factor is trying to put together a run of slug mainbodies. Right now Deadlywind is the only machinist who's willing to do them.

There's a thread about it in PB talk.

there probably isn't a large enough demand on AO to even come close to breaking even on a purchase of a CNC machine (if that's what youre talking about, your post didnt make it clear whether you already have the machine)

btw, methods machine tools is a great CNC machine company.

This is like, third hand information, but weren't the DW Bodies and rails milled on a tiny desktop cnc machine?

Of course, even a small cnc machine would still cost more then you'd make from milling slugs...

yeah, paintball products are relatively small. although a large machine will usually be far faster and in some cases more accurate.

              Thanks for your replies!

I am well aware of the costs of these machines. Shops I have worked in have spent millions in upgrading to newer machines and tooling.
And I have seen my fair share of stress seeing some these expensive parts made.

Over the years I have worked in the heavy machining industry and would like to start a new path in several other sectors that I am familar with.
Paintball has just been a good old hobby of mine, and my main income will still be in the industrial division.

But if there is a chance that one can be a positive influence in any sector, there is no doubt that I will want to take a good look at it carefully.

So thats what brought me back here to my old tinkering grounds. Just to scope what the market needs are around here.

              Thanks again.

stick around. you will definitely be needed eventually as there are plenty of people who like to build there own things.

Hey let me tall yall this guy does stand up work.
I sent him some drawings I made on MSPaint and he was able to make me a block that holds my MPA-3 for my project bull pup mag.
Hephaestus I am still working on this thing, work seems to get in the way but I am working on it.

                  Thanks

okay, go for it, just as long as you realize that you won't come close to offsetting the cost of the machine.

Thats a cool idea, but a VF is way way too big. The shop I use to work with had 4 VF size Haas machines, and in the long run not one of them was ever dedicated to milling paintball stuff, 70% of the time the shopo was running other jobs.

I personaly would go for a Haas mini super mill style machine, used unless you intend to run some large peices for other industries.

But dedicating your self to AO projects would keep you busy , especialy as posted before once people start picking up RF slug bodies, they need some one to mill them and design a few mill styles.

                      Just my thoughts

                        Hey SteelSoul,

Good to hear from you Bro!
I have to say that I did enjoy working on that project for you. Gave me a good challange to mentally picture what you really wanted.
Hope that all works out well for you.

                        Hi Bartman,

At work we have an old VF-7, a newer VF-8, plus 2 EC-1600 made by Hass. Plus several other different brands of CNC machines. Next door in another shop there used to be a HUGE VF-10. (that one alone was a cool million plus.) Too bad that they did not use it to its full potential.
Parts I have worked with sometimes dont even fit our vf8 and I had wished that we had a 10.

                        Ciao!

I'm sure there are lots of people with the need (including my self) but the reason keeping me (and most others I'm sure) back is the cost. How much $ per hour?

If the machine is already ready, I may have some work for you within the next few months. I'm a little frustrated with my current machinist and am always interested in exploring alternative options.
