I GOT IT! I FINALLY GOT IT! my opinions inside!

OK today was a stressful day for me. I was supposed to buy a mag from a guy after school today. He wanted 160$ for it, I only had 110$ becuase a deal went bad with a friend the night before.. so I would have to wait another week until I could get it... ok... So he was weightlifting and his bro was bringing it after we were done. We were out htere and he puuls up, AJ (the guys name) opens htew door and whips it out.. OK right hten I about peed my pants just SEEING it... then I TOUCHED IT... OK.. so I was so excited I didn't even feild strip it.. i just looked down the feed to make sure the bolt was there, and gaev him hte money. HE wasn't goign to screw me, I could easily find out where he lived if he did. And I knew many people that play with him and they all say it runs great. So I get picked up, my mom stops to work out at this health clinic.. so i was ALONE IN THE CAR WITH THE GUN FOR AN HOUR... talk about suspense! I took it apart.. it was all there... BUT! On the side of the valve.. instead of stars... ther was the words "FEILD RENTAL" engraved on the side... SO WHAT? I thought.. I knew he bought it from a feild.. just didnt thik it wouldnt have any stars... I am still kinda wooried over that.. I will have to pay to get the valve serviced.. OK so i gfet home and quickly gas it up... well, the gun is a 68 Automag, past field rental, no stars, vert bottle, standard feed... had traced of blue paint on the spring which I wasn't worried about.. Has the plain black stock barrel, no ports. The back halve of the Valve is kinda off- the AUT and the OMAG dont line up right becuase hte two peices arent quite on together right. And theres a small leak out the hex hole in the regulator. I assume thats a bad seal and can be fixed.. its not a big leak and seemd to go away a bit after i started shooting. Well heres how the shooting went:

I went out on my deck.. screwed in my co2 tank into the vart, which leaked alot till i got it in tight.. thats when I noticed the leak out the reg screw.. oh well that can be fixed... I dry fired a few times to get the feel of the trigger like soem of you said in hte chat.. OK I dry fired once and though "yea.. so what.. it wont chop.." so i loaded a few balls in the feed neck and elbow... and SLOWLY started firing... no chops at all.. but i was running co2 and it is about 40 degrees oput so i didnt wanna rip any yet.. ok i.. yea.. i did.. lol.. so i loaded her up and started ripping 5 and 6 shot bursts.. at about 30 yards i was getting a 4-6 inch group! And it was MUCH quieter than my old M98 was.. hell this new mag didn't have a pound of steel hammer traveling 1 1/2 inched to strike a valve pin. Also.. no chops at all.. and i still got a 4-6 inch group and I WAS USING CRAP PAINT! It had dents in it and was like 20 bounce paint! and it was still great!

I did have a few complaints/problems.. for one.. No stars.. i was worried about that.. and I dont like "FIELD RENTAL" being tattoed on my gun... Alsothat leak out hte reg screw.. It doesn't seem serious but I assume it could get serious... And its an olg 68.. witch the old plastic-ish grip frame.. and has those hard grips. with the one screw.. won't accept standard 45 grips... Also.. if I BARELY pull the trigger, not enough the release thew bolt.. i get s "SHHhhhhhhh" of gas down the barrel... i have to be really quick on the trigger or I get that. I assume thats a bit normal though right? I have dreamed about having an automag since I saw them in paintball mags 2 years ago.. now I got one! a really, really cheap one but hey! And thanks to all you guys here at AO.. this place really inspired me to get the thing. Especially seeing the great customer service AGD has, and seeing how Tom is such a great guy.

Im glad you got your mag, and yes thats normal. I dont think you should have many problems getting liquid in the valve with vertical bottle, cause the liquid is heavier than the gas. Sometimes leaks go away, mine did, I had a tiny one at the bottom of my foregrip and it went away after I shot about 100 rnds or so...

I felt the same way when I got mine :-) I didn't have all those problems though. . .:-)

OK- i forgot one detail I also disliked But it might be cuase this is an older 68 or something? I cant remove the barrel unless i unscrew the screw above the trigger... This normal? and the barrel sorta twists a bit when its in.. about 1/8 of an inch around, and this stop balls from feeding.. anyway to fix?

You pin is just really tight. Try putting a small washer under the screw in front of the trigger. This should solve your barrel problems.

As for the little leak out the back, put 4-5 drops of oil in the vert adapter before you gas up. That usually works. At least it did for me.

If you still want to run Co2 and get a bottomline, make sure you get an angled bottomline. Like 10 deg or so. This will keep liquid out nicely, even with a gas-thru grip. Trust me, first hand expirence.

There is a way to fix it. Take your grip frame off, and body off, and unscrew the little tiny screw with a hex wrench. The screw should be on a brass cylinder, or atleast I think it is brass. Just loosen it nad you'll be set.

Both of those sound like problems to me (my new one doesn't do that). If you don't have it, get the video (Go to the online store and order it, it's free) and WATCH IT! You will know how to fix you problems after that. Also, while you are ordering your video, get a parts kit. They are $20, but your going to need it to fix your problems.

The leak out of the reg screw sounds like a bad reg piston oring, unless it's shooting hot, then it's probably a bag/dirty reg seat.

The leak down the barrel is probably the power tube oring or spacer. You may have a power tube spring instead of a spacer. As I understand it, the spacers are better. You'll need a power tube spacer kit to change that.

The online store has better grips ($15). Or, there are always after market grips...

                  Congratulations on your "new" 'mag.

Put a spacer on the screw so it dosn't go in that far, and change the orings on the barrel, or just put some scotch tape under the barrel orings. And the 'plasticish' triggerframe is the newer version frame, its carbon fiber, stronger and lighter than aluminum.

                    ENDO!

                        Field Rental

And don't worry about the fact that is says "Field rental". I had one and it was the smoothest shooting mag valve I have ever seen. I almost cried when I sold it...

Do not take the valve halves apart until you absolutely need to do so. The reg seat works best when you seal it one time then put a new one in the next time you take it apart. As for the small leak out of the screw, get a new reg seat check the tech forum to know what I am talking about, then install that and put 4-5 drops of oil in the asa and go fire 100-150 shots and that should fix the leak. Have fun with your mag and just make sure you remember to ask the guys here if you have any other problems.

Well I think I know why its leaking out the reg screw. Black and Zvanut say it has to do with it being an old field rental.. the field gets them with a special reg seat that starts to leak out hte back when the velocity is over 300--- yesterday I was shooting about 320.. fast enough to where it was hard to see the paint even fly... Now today I took out hte allen wrench when shootign and slowly turned the screw down.. at first it seemed to only slow the leak.. so I thought I'd fuge with it later... then after 2 or three shots it calmed down and eventually quit. And I was, I think, borderline 300... I really need to buy my own chrono.
