    Longevity question

How long would an ego (or any other high end electro marker) last provided with the basic maintenance? How does it compare to mech markers? Can you keep an ego for years or have to change it for newer models due to eletronic failures and problems that would maybe crop up with time?

    thanks

Not certain that electros have really been around long enough to truely answer that. I doubt that electros have a life as long as that of a mech.

with normal maintenance most guns should last about the same. granted it is properly operating at its optimal settings (or close to)

the majority of times when a marker comes into the shop for repair. probably about 95% of them are for user error. pinched wires, modifying parts, over pressurization, ect ect. the other 5% of the time its a sear or bolt issue from YEARS of play/abuse. (and im not talking simple leaks which are usually just an oring fix)

take care of the gun, it will take care of you.

A buddy of mine got a Diablo Matrix right after they first came out. Someone else here would have to tell you when that was, but its been a few years. He used it every game for a long time. Just last year it finally started having troubles that have seemed unresolvable. The board started acting funny, wear on the bolt has caused it to have problems with both FSDO and shootdown. Both of the regs required complete rebuilds. It was one thing after another. It gave a great long life of troublefree use but eventually, as anything would, it wore out.

What you have to decide is whether you can continue to find replacement parts. In this case there is an oring that is not available in the "DM3" rebuild kits, and replacement parts are near impossible to find now.
Dunno if Eclipse will be the same way, but many manufacturers and parts houses quit carrying parts for older markers.

parts availability has a lot to do with a gun's life ... if there are parts you can keep a gun running for a long time ...

the Boards in the electro's are put thru heck ... humidity, hot, cold, jarring, shaking, rattling will eventually take their toll ...
