    co2 Fiber Wrapped Tanks

I hate to start a new thread for this, but I just got my shocker and it came with a tank dated "09-IA11-98". I assume thats 1998, roughly three and a quarter years ago. It is DOT-E11005. I was wondering if this needs to be hydroed NOW, or is it a 5 year hydro date?

yes you do, that is a 3 year hydro tank.

Dont be shocked if it fails. Fiber tanks used for Liquid co2 tend to fail at a higher rate because the contraction the cold co2 on teh alumium liner pulls it away from teh fiber wrap and cause it to fail for strech.

Well, not trying to prove you wrong rob, but I really don't want to buy a new tank. www.hydrotesters.com has this quote.. "

        "NOTE!
Luxfer Cylinders and Carleton (Pressure Technologies) have both been granted a 5 year re-qualification exemption for their Carbon Fiber wrapped cylinders only! This means that those cylinders must be tested every 5 years instead of every 3 years. "

This tank says "Carleton Technologies" on it. Maybe all tanks do maybe they don't. Tell me if I'm wrong here.

          YOUR WRONG

you told me to tell you.

Anyways, you need to re hydro it, the 5 year plan is good after you rehydro it. The tanks are not "grandfathered" into the 5 year plan. Also, it is not ALL of the tanks by these companies. You must have the proper DOT-E code on the bottle.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you will have to hydro it. Its only your life your dealing with if it fails. Go to a local Getz or Fire equipment shop to have it tested. Also, dont go by everything you read online. If you have a question about the DOT codes.. Its much better to get the info from the DOT. Getz will be able to tell you exaclty what you need to know. But dont do it over the phone. Better to talk in person.

            Spaceman613 is right

It depends on the DOT number on your tank. DOT-E11005 is an older number requiring a test every 3 years for EVER! The DOT-E11194 is the newer DOT number that will allow a 5 year retesting interval. Sorry. Glad I got the newer one...
