i think egg cartons are the best ones to choose since they have those point things similar to real gun case's foam. there are ones that are used to secure waffle cones (haha, dont ask), and are nice, but not as good as the egg cartons that i've seen.Comment

Go to home depot then go to the insulation section.
Look for foam core they are near the back next to all the other insulation stuff.
You can easily cut them to any shape using a box cutter or an exacto knife. Also they are very cheap, about 6 dollars for a sheet of 6 ft by 6 ft. Come in 2 sizes, one that is 1/2" and one that is 1", but you can double stack them.Comment

You're looking for pillow or cushion blanks at the craft store. Michaels, Ben Franklin, Jo-Anne Fabrics, that kind of place.Comment

All of the craft foam you will get is kinda soft and pretty expensive. The good, denser stuff is hard to come by. I got a bunch of it that I kept from the box my flat screen tv came out of. That type is perfect - thick and more solid than the egg-crate foam from Michaels. The good thing about the craft store variety is at least you can get it pretty readily.Comment
