Dallara + Sub-Zero Feedneck?

After many moons of waiting my Dallara has finally arrived. Now that I have both in my hands I need to figure out how I need to modify my Dallara to accept the Sub-Zero Feedneck. I don't have the tools here at college to work on it, so I can't experiment too much. But really, with a Dallara or Sub-Zero I don't want to experiment at all anyway.

Although looking at it, the Sub-Zero could be modified to fit. The outside section above the threads is angled downwards, but the inside is flat. Could it be possible to modify the outside of the feedneck? Or would it simply be easier to modify the ridge in the middle of the Dallara body? The only part I don't like about that option is how that will affect the overall flow of the body along the top and back.

I had DW modify my Karta body when they made it to accept the low profile feednecks like the Subzero. Because the feedneck is low profile, you can't see the mod made to the body.

I told Colin I was planning on installing a low profile feedneck on the body and he immediately knew what I was talking about and milled a bit off the ridges for me.

Even without a low profile feedneck, the mod doesn't look out of place. In fact you wouldn't even know it had been modified.

I would think trying to mod the feedneck to suit the body, would be a bit more difficult and visible if not done cleanly, it could just ruin the overall look when installed together.

But the Karta's shape is a lot different from the Dallara's, obviously. The Dallara actually has a ridge on the back side of the feedneck hole. The Karta is more uniform all the way around. My fear with the ridge on the Dallara body is that filing down that ridge will mess up the flow.

The Karta has the same center Ridge. To get a sub-zero to fit flush, you have to mill down the center ridge, right at the feed neck hole.

i had that same problem when i took the sub zero neck off my pariah and put it on my dallara but i didn't want to mod anything so i just got a no-rise from ccm it's just as short and looks great.

Hm. Do you have a picture showing your feedneck on your Dallara? And of the specific feedneck?

I did both my Karta & Dallara bodies with a needle file.
File away the hump on the body Just take it nice and slowly and keep checking.
When you screw in the feedneck you'll see where it's touching the body by a little marks left by the feedneck in the raw aluminium.

So when you filed down the Dallara, did you file it at an angle rather than just straight down? Did you smooth out all the sides or just that tall ridge? It looks great, hopefully when I do it I can pull off similar results.

Thank you Sajjad, you've been a great help. I'm going back home to my garage this weekend so I'll have a chance to start it and maybe finish it. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Thanks for the response Mistur, but I already started modifying my Dallara body for my Sub-Zero over the weekend. I'm probably not going to trim it up quite as extensively as Sajjad but it's still a work in progress. I'm probably going to trim it up so I can screw at least half of the threads in, then use locktite to keep it in place after the anodize.

I'll post pictures when I'm satisfied with the look. heh

Once the thread catches I'm only getting two full rotations of the feedneck.

I'm getting about one and a half. I may file it down so I get one and three quarters, possibly 2. I'm heading out to run an errand shortly then I'll come back and work on it then post some pictures.
