    Sear Cleaning

Anybody know of a good way to clean a sear? I have a project Mag I am working on and the previous owner wasn't exactly Mr. Clean when it came to gun maintenance. The sear works fine, but it's corroded over with what looks like rust or some sort of oxidation. Is there a way to clean the sear and bring it back to it's former glory and cleanliness? Thanks guys!

steps in order of gentlest to aggressive

    -wipe it off
-soap and water (dawn dish soap) rinse well, dry well, use compressed air if need be
-metal polish like brasso may work
-aggressive metal polish or fine sandpaper/emory cloth (be careful not to round the sear edge off in the process)

if that doesnt do it get a new sear

Easiest way is to just take some 400 grit sandpaper to it. Don't touch the skinny sides, only do the broadsides.

Steel Wool 100 or as said 400 grit or fine emory, then Flitz or Maas polish. Is it pitted?

It's in pretty rough shape. I may just go ahead and replace it.

I'd love to see a pic of it. I don't see how a piece of metal that hard can become useless.
