Whatever happened to a pistol tourney?

i've been in the sport for a while, before I registered this name I had another... but forgot it, lol. I have seen many fads come and go, remember the old mag vs cocker feud, when the original angels were the tits, and even lusted after a Shocker 4x4... lol.

One of the most interesting ideas I have ever heard, though, was when the Tiberius pistol came out and they were talking about a pistols-only tournament. Whatever happened to this idea?

I mean, with the influx of newer kids and the resurgence of pump play (OSC, etc.)... what gives?

Most new kids would never consider shooting anything that requires you to do anything between trigger pulls... which means they probably won't ever get into the pump arena. But the allure of limiting your firepower while still having a semi-auto marker... that's something I really think they would enjoy.

    So... where's it at?

And along the same lines, if the OSC can make it, why not a semi-only tournament? I remember there was talk about that as well, but I don't recall whether or not that was a "how cool would this be" kind of thing or if there was a legit attempt made.

    Talk amongst yaselves...

I personaly think that this would be awesome. I always liked the tiberius because it was simmalar to a mag in action and the sweet design of the magizine ,ect. I cant afford one for a side arm, but if some sort of orginized thing like the sppl but with pistols only was created It would give a another reason to have one.

Actually last year at the SPPL qualifier in Georgia I participated in a Tac-8 mini-tournament. They provided us with the Tac-8's and let us do what ever we wanted on the speed ball field. It was pretty cool, I even got bored and convinced my buddy to dual wield against me. It was great.

yes, but what about a stand-alone format like the sc and pump guys have thier own tourneys at the big tournaments across the country? I think that would be a really neat idea.

Don't get me wrong I think mini-tourneys are a start, but i believe that a semi-auto pistol format would be AS exciting to watch as the no-holds-barred electro formats (yes, yes I disagree with it but some think SC play is less exciting to watch) while still having the challenge of limited paint/air.

        I think it draw a good-sized crowd.

And, though in general I disagree with monopolies, a pistol format would be the most level field of play in the entire sport! I mean, think about it... imagine if every NBA team used thier own version of the basketball. They would differ in size, weight, etc... that's basically what we have in Paintball! None of the equipment is standardized. A pistol tournament would be the closest thing to a "standardized" paintball tournament we have available at this time. I mean heck, the tournament wouldn't even have to support a monopolization of the format... there are other semi-auto pistols around. You can even convert your mag to a semi-auto 12g-fed pistol!
