Picking a Tank Reg for a Classic R/T

Mods: since this topic is about tank regulator recommendations and not about tech help, I figured it belonged here rather than the tech forum. If I'm wrong, please move it.

I have a Classic R/T that I'm fixing up, but I need a new tank regulator. Since the R/T is the only marker I have that requires HPA, I figured I'd pick a tank reg specifically for it. Anyway, I want to be able to tune the "bouncyness" of my R/T, from true semi (tourny- and field-legal) to a bouncing monster (think 30bps Qloaded shock and awe 'mag). I'm wondering which tank reg is best for this purpose.

If I can adjust the R/T itself for this kind of bounce, I'm probably looking at a fixed output reg, like the Myth or I-Reg (so that I can get 1000psi output, but still change later if I need it). If the tank is going to be my primary way to control bounce, I probably need an adjustable reg (since I can't be venting my tank to change the I-Reg piston every time I want a field-legal 'mag).

So my main question is can I get my R/T to be field-legal and bouncy with a fixed output from the tank, or not? This will determine if I get a fixed or adjustable reg. Feel free to chime in with other recommendations or advice, but this is my main question.

    Thanks.

I think your only options are ULT or another reg, as a foregrip for example.

On my classic RT I have mounted a centerflag 201. It is awesome. I will post pics tomorrow.

from what i know of these things is that you need an adjustable tank to control your bouncyness and change to single shot. because on most mags after the air is out of the tank its going to the valve straigt away so there isnt any other way to control whether you are geting the rt effect or not.

now dont take my word for this but you might be able to buy a really high fixed output tank think 1000psi and then run the air through a regulator between the tank reg and the valve. but the second regulator might not be able to get enough air through to get your rt effect

final conclusion is that it would be easier to get an adjustable tank.

Well, BigEvil tells me that I can switch on/off pins in the R/T to adjust bounce, so I'm probably going to go with a 1000psi reg and play with the R/T on/off for bouncyness. If anyone's got any other advice, let me know. Thanks everyone.

But where do you get a high recharge 1000 psi reg?

              Over in the B/S/T? That's where I get stuff. . .

Here are the pics I promised of my 201

              more later

Ok I was under the impression you could buy them new.. of course I could look in the BST

I do however prefer to buy things new

Uh, can you remove or resize that giant picture? It's kinda wallpaper sized and over 600KB. Thanks...

So since I'm looking at a fixed reg, anyone got a list of 1000psi output regs? So far I know about the I-Reg and special ordering regs from Guerilla Air.

I heard around here that you can call crossfire and have them install a HP spring in one of their fixed output tanks. I think the person that posted that said they got a 1150psi spring or something. Worth calling them at least.

Any word on how Crossfire regs are on recharge rate? I've heard good things about the Myth, but nothing about the I-Reg or Crossfire's regs. My worry in getting a reg with an output that high is that it wouldn't be able to recharge to that pressure quickly enough, making my R/T behave inconsistently.

My corssfire is MUCH more "reactive" than my Gurilla Air Ambush reg, I dont know about teh myth but same company and same operating pressure of 850...I Just got an I reg...as soon as the tank it is going on gets back from the Hydro I will post up.

Hmm, I wouldn't imagine that a smaller reg would have a better recharge rate, so I'd assume that Crossfire would then be a better option than a GA reg. Of course, I'd be comparing versions with higher outputs, but it's probably a good assumption anyway.

Two questions: one, what piston will you be using in your I-Reg, and two, what marker are you using these on?

Anyway, please post up when you have a chance to test these, I'm sure that'll be helpful. Thanks!

the I reg will be using the 1000psi piston, and I will give the 800psi piston a shot as well. I am using them on an X-valved ULE mag. I know it ant the classic RT but when I used to have my CLassic RT it was spot on with my x valve mag...should have the tank next week to see how that 1000psi preset runs...
