    Hand pump... anyone use this?

I just came across this hand pump solution for HPA fills... being in the market for a few SCUBA tanks I'm wondering if this is a possible solution... sounds like a lot of work and the same $$$ as a few SCUBA tanks.

I don't think it really worth it. I don't have access to a price but if you say it equal a couple of scuba tank well my guess is that if you hook couple of tank together it will be better.

The advantage of the devide would be that it will make you alots of muscle but I don't know how long you would be able to pump if you have to 3-4 refill per day hehehe.

It won't let me download the product sheet

Kind of interesting. Get a good work out at the least pumping up a tank

I think this was discussed a while back. The thing takes several thousand pumps at a significant level of force to fill a 45ci tank as I remember ....

You'd be pumping it for hours to fill even a 45ci tank. It's not practical.

I think someone decided that you could only pump it up to about 100 PSI and thus it would be basically useless to try to fill a tank with.

I've used a 'hand' pump (use one hand or two, like a grip exerciser) to pump up a pressure transmitter with three feet of hose (1/4in. diam.,~3 cu.in.total) to 150 psi. It took a few minutes and we would take turns each time because our chests would be burned out. HPA tanks store a LOT of energy. If you are going to reach a useful pressure, you'll need a whole box of wheaties.

The first 100 psi was pretty easy, but it stacks up quick.

There was another company that had something like this available. They also sold that 4500psi 88 Cub Foot tank that was made to fill other tanks off of. I had called them about the pump and the guy that I spoke with talked me out of it. He said that to get up to 4500psi, you would need to pump it >1000 times and it would be 30 lbs of push and pull on the handle. He said that it DOES work, but is very time and energy consuming

Those are made for airguns, which typically have air tanks smaller than 13ci...

It will pump that high, but it will take a long, long, long time, and you're going to wear through the seals extrodinarily quickly, as a 48/4500 is like 4x bigger than an airgun tank.

Good point... I guess I should have thought it would take that long to get up to pressure. Well then, SCUBA tanks it is... now on to find some nice cheap ones that have a good hydro.

                    Thanks guys!

Who says you have to do it by hand, I want to get one and hook it up to a stationary bicycle. Not only are legs stronger than arms, but you can really put your whole weight on pedals. Not to mention it doesn't mess up my back (I'm 16 and my back hurts when I use hand pumps )

That's like saying that you breathe enough at work so you don't have to do it at home and get a respirator.

Buy the SCUBA's and pay the $5 per fill at the local dive shop.
