    Deployment Welcome Home Gift

    Hello AO'ers,

My dad is currently deployed to Kandahar Afghanistan and is scheduled to come back first week of September. We are both avid paintballers, but he is still using my old tippmann A-5, which in my opinion is reliable, but performance wise a sub par gun Im gonna go in and buy him a welcome home marker. So what guns are out there Semi Auto around the 350ish or lower price range? He already has an HPA tank (HP) and a hopper, so this is just for the gun only.I was looking at an older DP F7, which are going cheap for like 220 now a days.Ive heard the regs need cleaning after every use, and Im kinda scared about that because I use an AGD Tac one as my primary and Phantom as my backup, and he uses the A-5, so weve never dealt with electronic guns or regulators or any of that.Is it simple enough? He isnt a paint sprayer, he needs something light and reliable. Ive looked into mags, but mags are too expensive to get them where we need it ( xvalve preferably, level 10 bolt, ule body for cocker threads, intelliframe etc..) I dont really want to buy used, but if the gun is really simple and reliable, where the previous owner cant jerk anything up too badly, than its fine.So what's out there?

    Thanks,Lido

You can find a used mag for that. And there really isn't too much a previous owner could do to screw it up.

If you replace the x valve with an rt pro valve you could get one for ~ 300 with what you listed IMO.

    Good luck!

For a cheaper 2finger frame you could get a benchmark or a dye gripstyx. You could get a AM/MM rail too. In fact, here's what I recommend you buy, USED:
      X-valve w/L10 & ULT
      AM/MM rail, possibly ULE'd
      Benchmark or dye 2x frame
      steel body
      aluminum twistlock barrel

I'm pretty sure you could get that for $350 or less.

Classic RT with an Intelliframe. You can get one in almost new shape for a lot less than $350.00.

Have you looked into a mini? They're 330 now, they're light, and from what i hear they can take a beating all right (well as far as mud and such, ask trevorjk) and they should be fairly easy to maintain looking at the design.

              RT pro

There's an RT Pro f/s over on MCB. They are asking $300. Don't think it's sold yet. Just something to look into.

First off I'm glad your dad is coming home safe. You and your family must be very proud of him for keeping all of us safe. I know I am. As for a mag you could build a pneumag w/classic valve around 350.

the mag can definetly take a beating far better then any gun ive ever owned.

but im now down to 2 mini's after at one point owning 5 of them. (3 of which i sold to friends) and i can promise you i have yet to see another fully electronic gun take a beating like i have put my mini through. maybe i just got very lucky? either way im completely sold on them right now.

here are a few pics of the hell i put my mini through. and it still works flawlessly.

btw, now own 2 minis and a classic mag. all 3 get the same use, either by me or friends. and i would DEFINETLY recommend both guns

I would agree with many of the posts above. If you decide to go used get a classic Rt and have cash left over. If you go new, you can't go wrong with a mini. Out of the box performers that are just plain fun to shoot!

See, i told you Trevor put his through hell, and it still came back fine. I'm gonna sound like a broken record saying this again, but get a mini.

ive narrowed it down to mini, proto rail, or dp f7. What sounds good?

I personally wouldnt go for a mini...some have great luck with them (such as trevor) and some have horrible luck with them (such as my teammate). Its a 50/50 chance whether you get a great one, or a picky one. The picky ones tend to go down at the most inconvenient times, and i see them go down all the time in tournaments.

PMR's are very very reliable IMO, and easy to maintain as well as they can take the abuse from sliding around/agressive play.

I have never actually played with a DP, but i have test fired a few of them and they are light as well as very comfy to handle.

Another suggestion i thought id throw into the mix, is an Etek Ego. They are super reliable from my experience, they shoot great out of the box, and they last a long time. I have used this marker for scenario events in the past, and loved it. I even once bled all over mine (dont ask...was my stupidity in the first place) and it still handled great even with blood and mud inside the grip frame lol.

ive heard extrmely mixed reviews on the mini after reading on about it so now my new choices are pmr or DP f7.Im really not sure which one to choose. Theyre both cocker threaded and will run off of HP, right?I dont need the fastest gun, I need a light gun with some speed but mainly it needs to be consistent, simple, easy to maintain, and reliable.
