    Need Help Picking An Image

so im entering an online contest for the topic "My Addiction"

anywho help me to decide on which on to use. and 1 and 2 ARE DIFFERENT! saturation's and slight angle change

i personally like the colors on the green one, but the tag board gave it a grainy look in the back ground. 1 and 2 were used with a strong blue bulb, while 3 was a green bulb, 4 a red bulb, and 5 a soft blue for a natural light.

I like the colors on the green one the best. But the ring light has a good effect in the first pic. And yet still, the second pic has the best splatter pattern and DOF.

No. 1 is the best, but for the topic "my addiction," I think it would be better if you switched it to red instead of blue. Would take 5 seconds in photoshop.

            That's my opinion.

EDIT: Also, try fading or darkening everything in a gradient around the ball. It would convey the feeling you get when all you can think of is PAINTBALL.

second edit: Actually, I would like it better if you took another one, similar to the first one but with the ball a little lower in the frame and a LITTLE closer to the center. Without any of the major drops of paint cut-off.

Is this one of those find the differences in the pics games???

I always sucked at those things...

Red one too morbid looking. Though titled My Addiction it may be fitting.

Green one.. cool and I like but as you said about the texture of the background. I personally think it'd look super cool if it was done with a background of contrasting color.

I think you should take a ball and slam it like it would be shot the take the pic.... I think it'd be more intriguing. The intact orb is too much of a giveaway.

Sorry I'll pick one of the 5...

#2. The biggest reason I had for picking that over #1 was the picture didn't chop off the far left paint splatter.

I really liked the green one too, but as stated you can see the grain of the backround.

                Nice job though!

I think im going to try retaking the images of the green light tomorrow. hopefully not get as much of the grainyness.

also, the reason i dont want to wreck the main paintball or anything of that nature, is to show that it is a paintball. however im thinking i might go out side and shoot a few and collect some of the broken shells to lay into the splatter.

thanks for the tips guys, i appreciate it

Why do you need to use a different colored light? Just change the color on photoshop. That way you can choose a color without limiting the photo's other aspects.

Thats what I thought also. If you see paint the shell should be broke. Red is a no no for paintball paint.. Whats with the dot on the ball?

the dot on the paintball is actually from my light source. since the room was pitch black except for my single light source. only problem with that is i don't have a Defuser of any kind to keep the hard light from hitting the paintball and creating a glare. and i couldn't find anything thin enough to let light through but to defuse the light enough to stop the glare. will have another go at this tomorrow or tuesday

                        thanks for the suggestions everyone!

the goal for me at least is to try to do it all with out using photoshop as a way of teaching my self new and better ways of getting the images i want. basically teaching my self to take better pictures

however, ill still use photoshop for every picture when i see it necessary.

Thats the win right there. Now go shoot some of that green paint against some stuff out side and take the pic.

Try a piece of paper, toilet paper (UNUSED), paper towel, or wax paper. Those make pretty decent defusers in a pinch. Or just try shining the light just behind the object on to a piece of white and let it work that way.

Good luck and good job by not wanting to photochop everything.
