I saw that. How'd he do it? Did he use existing software?

I've seen stuff like that before...there's no way you would be able to use it in a game though. No legitimate field would risk having a paintball gun that is designed to fire without anyone controlling it...how could it tell if you were wearing a mask or not?

or have it shoot up the refs..

but I'm pretty sure we all know he didn't design this for games. It's more or less just for kicks imo even though he plans to sell it.

when he first put those video's out i emailed him and he said he just used the imput from a webcam and he wrote his own software. its actually not that difficult if you know how to code. im also sure it would have been 10 times better if it had been a mag on there instead of an ion.

It wouldn't be much different than a paint-mine, which some scenarios allow.

paint mine just sprays, its no worse that being spray with a garden hose with a nossle on it this shoots paintballs at 280-300 fps. but that is something that makes me worried is the experienced players at the field i go to dont look to see if the first timers are wearing thier mask be fore they shoot, there have been a few close calls.

This would be much worse than a paint mine. The guy in the video gets hit multiple times before he even makes it to a bunker...with a large enough loader there is potential for serious injury as the camera cannot distinguish between targets that have already been hit (and walking off the field) and live players. Likewise, it cannot distinguish between teams.

A very fascinating idea, and excellent engineering, but no way it's practical or safe for use in paintball.
                      My feedback

Made in USA - it matters.

As for safety, you could have it recognize a certain color and anytime that color is in its field of view, it cannot fire. Or just have a remote on/off switch.

He should put a warp on it....take the weight off the marker, less force needed for actuation, and it would be even more precise. Not to mention with a warp you could have virtually unlimited capacity.

If you had it programed to recognize the color of a broken paintball, you could have it programed so that anytime a moving object has that color on it, the marker wouldnt fire. Only drawback, if you turn you back after being shot, your getting shot again. If everyone is following the rules and keeping their mask down like they should, it would be possible to use these on a field.
