I hate tank hydro. Anyone else?

So I find it a total pain to have to get tanks hydroed or to sell them (at a massive loss) and get a new one. Anyone else wish there were a mag like HPA alternative?

From below since there was a little confusion brewing:

What I like about mags is that I can maintain it and forget it. Think about it what other part of your paintball gun to you have to pay someone else to inspect? If you have a 9th grade education you can tech a mag (just read the instructions and do as you are told). Plus it isn't like the thing is gonna wear out on you or "expire" just cause it has been around a certain amount of time. They hold their value cause they work.

It would be nice to have a tank that would do the same.

I took one of my tanks to a local dive shop for a hydro. It took way to long, and they weren't gentle with the reg at all. It was all gouged up. Not nearly as bad as Hexis, but definitely not acceptable.

you should really try and look around in the yellow book to find a company that will rehydro tanks for less than 20.00. unless you have already. i found fire system installation companies have tanks they use to hydro with and they don't advertise hydro'ing so they normally don't have a set price. that might allow you to haggle with them on the price.
i get mine done for 17.00 flat. plus i found its just not worth it to me to buy-hydro-sell a tank, although the money is there i just don't have the time really.

if any one needs one hydro'ed pm me.

So tanks getting hammered or DQ'd is a big part of it.

Did you all know if the guy doing the test gets it wrong 3 times (not your tank doesn't pass just fails to get the test to run properly) he is required to retire the tank FOR HIS MISTAKE!

Say they destroy your reg but pass the tank. You now have to get either a 20$ used or 40$ new reg. Yuck.

17$ is a deal on hydro. For the poor schmucks paying 50$ at their field I think it is ridiculous. Least I have managed to find is about 20$ (yes I have tried the phone book for testers of all sorts).

What I like about mags is that I can maintain it and forget it. Think about it what other part of your paintball gun to you have to pay someone else to inspect? Oh yeah and yes I know there is a wealth of newbs that come and go in a year selling tanks cheap on the nation. This is part of a larger problem with paintball not retaining people. In part because the gear is so specialized and expensive. Costs could be driven down long term if everything were made to a higher quality standard (thereby flooding the market with more used goods that did as much as the new ones even if not as fancy).

The idea here is that if the sport is gonna last the things we use to play it oughta last too. Making a quick buck is killing us. Don't get me started on who and how this is being done. We have gone from getting people into the game with fun and giving away technology to gto pushing people out and hoarding technology.

Economic implosion aside we are also stagnant because in many ways paintball has lost its happy atmosphere.

/end rant on corporate america killed paintball
// back to tanks yeah for most 5yrs is 4 times longer than they will be around.

One local field here doesn't take any tank older than 3 years... even if its a five year tank!

                what's the point then

I guess I should blame their insurance company instead.. which they claim they are only insured for 3 year old tanks

Crossfire does recertify tanks for a very reasonable cost and with quick turnaround. They take good care of the tank and regulator, even if it isn't one of theirs. I'd certainly trust them over a company that doesn't specialize in air systems made specifically for paintball...

It's somewhat hard to know which places will do a good job until it's too late, or you have a good network with the locals (and assuming that they're honest).

I just sent 4 tanks off to Crossfire for hydro myself.

Just remember: the 2" diameter tanks under a certain length are exempt from the hydro rule. This means the 7oz+9oz CO2 tanks and the 13ci and 22ci HPA tanks. Those are my primary tanks for the time being. I love playing with that 7oz CO2 tank.

                        Definitely not on the A-Team.

ppfft bet it is a local place and you aren't even sure they test properly. If it is bonified why don't you let the rest of us in on it.

Exactly, I hear all you guys moaning over the cost of a safety regulation intended to protect you. I just had two done at Crossfire for $20 + shipping/each and got them back within 10 days. So if I get this right, you guys are complaining about approx. $6 per year to keep you safe and 1 and a half weeks of down time. Yet who didn't spend $25 before on a pair of DYE stickys/Hybrid grips on a gun they probably sold with 2 years... Priorities people...
