i only fill my tank at the field. i really don't need to shoot it at home, and my neighbors don't like it. i pay 10 dollars for all day air. i get it filled as many times as i want, and once at the end of the day. that way i can save some air for next time i play.

I understand that there is some cost in the process of compressing it and thats fine. So charge me a dollar. I cringe everytime I hand 5 or 6 dollars to the guy who just filled my nitro tank. Its disgusting. If we want to introduce more people to our sport, than we should lower the prices.
Its the same concept as buying bottled water except worse. Is anyone else disturbed by these prices, or is it just me? Well, at this very moment I am heading a letter to my local paintball store to request lower gas prices. Unfortunately, I am SURE nothing will be done because I am ONE person and it takes many people to aquire change these days.

First of all, we do not breth CO2. We exhale it. If we breathd only CO2 we would die. Same goes for Nitrous.

The compressors for air can go as high a 5000 dollars (stand alone gens) and the Nitrous has to not only be bottled but maufactured. That's right. A lab somewhere has to make the Nitrous. What, you though the stuff just grew on trees or something like that?

      Ha!

Finally, if you are in America then you must understand that we live in a capitalist society. People pay a dollar or more for a bottle of water, the most abundant element on the face of the earth.
Return to the free market. Get rid of all government regulations and let society make it's own decisions. Time and again the relaxing of government regulations has increased profits, innovation and the economy.

I think you are a lil Hasty in your comments. What we call Nitro (not Nitrous) is at it's most pure form N2, or just plain Nitrogen. For the most part for paintball we actually use HPA (High Pressure Air). Just plain ol compressed atmosphere. Easily confused with Nitrogen because

        Air:

        Nitrogen 78.1%
        Oxygen 20.9%

(Note that these two permanent gases together comprise 99% of the atmosphere)

        Other permanent gases:
        Argon 0.9%
        Neon 0.002%
        Helium 0.0005%
        Krypton 0.0001%
        Hydrogen 0.00005%

VARIABLE gases in the atmosphere and typical percentage values are:
        Water vapor 0 to 4%
        Carbon Dioxide 0.035%
        Methane 0.0002%
        Ozone 0.000004%

So, 80% or so is Nitrogen. CO2 is a different story.

Even though it's easy to come by, it's sure not easy to find at 3000psi or 4500psi. We are used to and use super high pressure. gmag, if you are really sick of paying for air, and don't want to get a fill setup for yourself, try blowing really really really hard into that fill nipple on your HPA tank. See how many shots you can get.

Well, This is what my field does. It charges like $1/1k, also, it has all day air for $10. But, they have this going on, a monthly membership for $30 which gets you very cheap (but still good) paint (like 40% off non membership paint), free air, and free field fee. I bought a year membership for $300. Get all that plus 10% off equipment. So, i go to the field 4-6 times a month (only open on weekends) which means i get a pretty good deal. I broke even with that $300 a couple of months ago. So, if your field has something like that...do that.

            I & I?

Lol $4-$6, I have to pay $9 for a 3000psi fill, that realy sux.

I & I charges $9!?!? I just bought a new flatline tank so I'm not familar w/ the cost of HPA fills. That settles it, I'm picking up a Scuba tank. It will pay for it sell in 15 fills or so.

Next time you go to a resturant and order a steak, try and haggle about the price. Should it be cheaper if it's cooked rare? It took less time and energy than if it was cooked well done. Better yet, bring your own slab of meat for them to cook for you and expect it to be free of charge.
What analogy are you trying to make? That I should only fill my tank halfway or something like that?

What's next, complaining about paint? You going to ask for a refund for the balls that bounced off the sup air field? Why not, they didn't break like they were supposed too. Better yet, get the manufacturer to refund you for all the paint that broke in the barrel of your gun. they were obviously defective.
This wasn't my argument...although I do think that the price of some paint is steep.

If your still unhappy with buying compressed gasses, go buy a sling shot...
Sorry for going off, but I am tired of people complaining about nothing.
Buying a sling shot will solve nothing. I'm not complaining about nothing; I made a legitiment claim about the prices of air. Looking at the responses I have gotten I realize that my claim was a little bit hasty and I did not research the other side of the argument. I didn't know about all the prices of the compressors and gauges, etc.

Don't punish the opperators for selling a service you need. Sure some of the owners/opperators do try and scam, lie, cheat and steal your money away from you. You will always have to watch out for bad business. Just don't lump all of us up in one big pile.
I'm not punishing anyone. I was complaining about the prices of gas. You also have to look at it from my perspective. I'm a poor college student. I try to get the most bang for my buck. Most of the people who play paintball are young and do not have the capitol to pay for gear, paint, and gas. In our eyes the price is steep, in your eyes the price is fair.

                Air:

                Ozone 0.000004%
Thanks for the info, but that really wasn't the point I was trying to make. I should have been more specific and said compressed air...I didn't know I was going to get such a factual response. When I say "nitro" I am summing up both nitrous and compressed air into one term. Once again, I should have been more specific.

Please do not INSULT me. I am not stupid. Do NOT tell me to blow in my fill nipple. I have not disrespected you, and I would appreciate if you would not me.

I would be happy with 1$/1k. I didn't know those prices even existed. Everywhere I have gone its been at least 5 or 6 bucks.

Im tryin not to laugh at you all

At my feild (Planet Paintball in Duncan, S. Carolina), I pay 7$ and I get as many Nitro fills as I want for the whole day. I didnt know how good I had it until now. Here, we call it "All-Day Air" Basically, 7 or 8 bucks (depending on which of the 2 big feilds your at) for the first fill and the rest of the day is free.

i just wanna say that i agree with GMag for the most part. paintball has GOT to be cheaper if it is to grow. and i do think that fields and stores overcharge, but i understand that it costs to provide. so i say this, why not everyone invest on some scuba tanks? aren't those a lot cheaper to fill??? i wouldn't know for sure, so i hope someone can enlighten me. but i plan on getting one myself, cause i had to pay like $8 last time i played and thats just ridiculous. if the fields and stores dont own a monopoly on the air market (ie, if we can get cheaper air by filling scuba tanks), then the supply of air goes up driving the prices down.
