Totally right on that one BigE.. Guys/Girls in this sport needs a good guy like TK to look up to. We need a good role model for all new players also.

You mean involved in the industry, because he IS around right here. He just did an ask me questions interview.

Ya smart = good. Thats another question I keep asking. How come all the good, smart folks
      left or are less involved?

It was awesome getting to hear Tom speak. I admit I have lost faith in the sport and I believe nothing but greed is killing it, so it was nice listening to someone that I actually respect in the Paintball Community. Thank you Techpb for putting it on.

I dont think TK needs to necessarily be involved in the 'industry' to do some good. He is in a very unique position: He firmly holds the moral high ground in most regards for the game of paintball. People pay attention to when he speaks and his voice carries with it weight. He could probably be very influential from the top of a soap box

Smart does not really equal good. There are plenty of "smart" people out there who are total scumbags. We could probably list a few without trying very hard.

If you are 'smart' and in the industry that means you are probably somehow trying to make money in it. If you are really smart you see that is very tough to do, so you look elsewhere.

If you are 'good', it is very easy to get discouraged with the direction and mentality that this game taken. That probably equals the same results. You get tired of it, and move on.

The bottom line IMO is that in order for the game to grow it must become fun again for all players of all levels. Manufacturers have done their part to provide us with adequate and reasonably priced equipment. It is not they who run the majority of playing fields.

In order for paintball to rebound it is up to the business people who own the fields to provide a quality product to their customers who patronize their establishments. Paintball must be brought back to the rudimentary reason why we all play - and that is to have fun.

Why is it that so many people playing for the first time never come back? It is easy to point fingers at a company that makes a ramping gun when a noobie gets lit up. That finger should really be pointed both at the person pulling the trigger AND the field who allows that type of mentality. Technology is morally neutral, it is the application of it which is judged right or wrong.

              Who is to blame
-when players are not properly instructed in safety?
-when no one has ever heard of ASTM standards let alone follow them?
-when 4500 air fill station are 'self serve' and some unknowing inexperience player tries to fill a 3k tank?
-when there are no pre-game orientations?
-when a player shoots someone point blank because they are unaware of the 10 foot rule?
-that most player do not know that leaving paint on goggle with adversely effect their integrity over time and make them vulnerable to eye injury?

Eh,... ok im cranky today and am ranting. Just my $.02 for what it's worth.

depends on how you want to look at it

It could be blamed on the player who is standing 5 feet away who doesnt say a word.

It could be blamed on the field who assumes everyone has experienced it all before since no one raised their hand to the question "any newbs?"

Theres plenty of blame that could go on manufacturers for not following standards. And for not placing big or obvious enough warnings on things. Or, god forbid, an actual safety precaution.....say different style fill nipples between 4500 and 3000 psi tanks? Or fill nipples that dont look like you can dump oil right down them?

Or it could be blamed on paintball community in general for taking the lax attitude of "they will figure it out....hopefully before someone gets hurt"

This is why I'd rather play rouge ball where everyone knows everyone elses name. That way we know when something needs explained to a new person, even before the person starts to ask. You cant expect something like that from a field.

                  Is RED paint still made?

Who is to blame or FAULT? [umbrella policy] Is it YOU or ME or any other player because we are uninformed and uneducatied or the folks that run the fields or the industry?

Just dont show or tell the scuba or firearm guys how we do things. They will tell you how stupid we are. Whos fault is that again?

Thats my two bits or bytes how ever you want to see it. Do I get any change?
