    What does OBO really mean?

Honestly? I can't figure it out for the life of me..

Someone puts up an item, with OBO in the price.

I offer up a 2 for 1 + cash, and it gets turned down.

    its still an offer

    its still the best offer

    What does OBO mean?

usually OBO means "or best offer"...
like he puts it up for 100$, you offer 90, and he takes it. Just means hes flexible with the pricing ...Hell I'm sure you could offer more if you wanted.

at least thats what it used to mean.

I don't think it is the best offer you can give, it is the best offer that he recieves.

But then to be fair the listing should have some kind of time restraint. He could be waiting 3 months for "the best offer"...

That's why I never put that in my listings, too many opinions on the matter.

It's all about how the seller perceives and evaluates the offer.

While your 2 for 1 trade in your eyes is worth it, to the seller it is not. If I had 50 grand to buy a car and someone offered me a Bentley, I would turn the offer down. While a Bentley is worth far more than 50 grand, it's not what I need so therefore the offer is worthless (While still an offer, it's certainly not the best).

You wouldn't take the Bently then sell it for more?
Due to the objections of a certain Canadian, this space is now for rent.

I've seen cases where the seller turns down an offer for the asking price because it is OBO and he is looking for someone to go above that. That drives me nuts!!!

I usually put OBO in my listings to let people know I have room to move. HAHA Id never turn someone down for my asking price.(Im usually strapped for cash when I sell something so I need the money now though..)

OBO is or best offer - as defined by the seller. Any offer is subject to the seller accepting it anyways so just because you have the only offer does not mean the seller is obligated to accept it.

Best does not always mean "of most monetary value". I have often given people I have done busines with in the past a better deal because knowing who I am dealing with (and having less chance of problems) is worth more to me than a few dollars.
