That is sad! I feel for the guy and I hope he doesn't lose his eyesight. People nowadays are just too dumb and have no respect for anything. I'm not saying as a whole, but those who do things like this.

This really pisses me off, I mean we already have enough people who dont take paintball seriously and then we keep having these damn kids running around shooting people on the street who think its funny. I hope these kids get caught.

Thats the kind of emotionally induced idiotic blanket statement that pisses me off.

You call for better regulation? More?

Perhaps they acquired those markers through other means.
The incident involved six males between the ages of 15 and 18
Not all teenagers are irresponsible idiots who wreak havoc. While it is true that I can purchase most anything but alcohol legally I still take offense to that, and think your mindset and others like you are wrong.

Why punish others who would use their markers responsibly because some *explicative* uses it for harm?

To me its the same principle behind gun control. Or any other type of control/prohibition.

To your point though, this is horrible and if they find em those kids ought to be tried for attempted murder and locked up for good.

Doesn't do much good for us either.

What really bothers me is the "assault with a deadly weapon" statement.

It is obvious that they were shooting hot because Dahlgren has scars all over his body from it, which makes it questionable if the kids themselves had any protective gear on.

As GRimm said, not only does paintball already have a bad reputation but now it can be seen as extremely dangerous when, in fact, the opposite would be true 100% of the time if idiots like this weren't idiots like that.
Its one of those "not only are they intended to be shot at each other, they are dangerous, too" things.

People don't realize how strict you have to be around this kind of stuff and it is that strictness at regulation fields that keeps the players safe. If it wasn't for isolated incidents like these paintball would probably be considered the safest activity you could do.

Anyone can ask GRimm this for confirmation, but we used to play outlaw-ball for a while. One time some smart@$$ decides to shoot "air" at his cousin after we were all done and chit-chatting. He claimed it was unloaded (A-5) but the cyclone can have paint in the paddles that won't feed for up to 5 shots then will be in the chamber. So he shot a few blanks, assumed it was empty, then proceded to shoot his cousin from about 5 feet away in the orbit and we later discovered it was very hot, about 330fps.
We had to disarm and hold back both of them to keep them from trying to kill each other, it was scary! His cousin only suffered a bruise and a cut, thankfully, and the shooter had a black eye from his cousin's fist...

This is rediculous already, I remember accounts of a small child in her mothers arms being shot in the face with a paintball gun. Thank the ___ she wasn't seriously injured.

And I'm sure it is another rung in the ladder for the "no guns" extremists.

But I am almost temped to believe a sort of FOID card for paintball markers should be in order. It would keep irresponsible and otherwise incapable people from buying markers to, quite literally, paint the town red.

I've even been asked to buy a gun for a kid because he wasn't old enough, he even offered to pay me. Obviously I refused and told him that if it was that important and explained the situation to the clerk he'd be happy to pass it through, which would obviously never happen.

But just because I didn't doesn't mean anyone else wouldn't as well. I am probably not far off if I say 8 out of 10 people would do it because the kid paid them.

So it brings up the same arguement as the guns in that people who would break the law in use would just as willingly break the law to obtain so it just gives the honest people a hassle.

I think if the sport was simply more popular it would decrease the pressure on us as a collective in the paintball world. I mean, assault with a baseball bat is never entirely serious beyond "Oh my word, that is terrible," but assault with a painball marker seems to have a huge impact on all of us.

It needs to stop. But the question is how

Wow. Costa Mesa is just about 10 minutes from me.

Its the people that always ruin it for the rest of us.

They will get what they deserve one day. Anyone who would do that to another person will most likely wipe a hit during a game. So I will take pride in overshooting that cheater just in case it is one of these kids. Lucky for them I mostly play pump.

6 teens...I bet one will be guilty enough to confide with someone else about the incident. Someone will crack.

When they get caught, they better get charged as adults, even if they are 15. It was a group of 6 people, with paintball guns, and no one is intelligent enough to say "wait, this is a really bad idea".

They were probably trying to be badasses and impress each other.....too bad ganging up on and shooting a helpless person is about as far opposite of badass as you can get. Hope they get to prove how cool they are in front of a judge and to other inmates....then they will realize how hardcore shooting a helpless person with a paintball gun is.

There's always one group of people...Jews, Blacks, Imigrants, gun owners, that tribe on the other side of the lake...that's OKay to look down your nose at and feel like you're better than them. Always. It's always been like that, it will always be like that.

sorry to have offended you but that fact of the matter is in my 9 years of paintball the majority of the people that caused problems on the speedball field, in the woods, and even on urban streets were teens. Even when I was a teenager this happened. You may be responsible but your peers on the whole are not. Thats why you will most likely never be hurt or hurt someone else playing paintball. But you also won't be one of those kids that shoots him self in the eye or uses a damaged tank that becomes a rocket and it ends up on youtube! There is just a small percentage of kids like you and if more were then we wouldn't hear about stuff like this.

I actually think it's the opposite... most people playing ball are OK people who want to stay safe, so they take the proper precautions. It's a classic case of the few dopes ruining it for everyone.

                            Interesting.

Apparently, if you give a bunch of hyperactive aggressive males with low impulse control non-lethal weapons, they will use those weapons to inflict pain upon, and torture, their fellow man. Merely because they know it will not kill - only maim.

I wonder. I really wonder if there is a lesson in this that can be learned by EVERYONE.

                            Such as the police department.

                            //talking about tasers here.

                            ///no, I won't stop complaining about them.

////if the cops can't restrain you with a billy club then they shouldn't be cops.

Yes, because that has kept guns out of the hands of oh so many criminals here in Illinois

+1. This is true for every group. I also find that the more fun the activity, the more regularly someone embarrasses all of those who partake in said activity.

I really hope that 6 convictions occur in rapid succession in the near future. This is absolutely despicable. While I wish I could say that "I cannot believe it" the sad truth is that I can very much believe it. I hope that resolving this does not get put on the back burner because of victim status.
