    Smart Parts

I just saw something that kinda irked me. It's my understanding that Tom Kaye left the business because of litigation by certain companies... I just happened to see on the Smart Parts website that they now have a number of youtube videos of smart parts staff showing off *new* smart part innovations like a "low-force bolt" in their "entry line of markers" They demonstrated with a paintball glued to what looked like a bolt and showed how the bolt didn't break the paint. They even went so far as to REPEAT the tongue in breach demo! What the heck!?! Does this frustrate anyone else? What do you think?

this was discussed as soon as that video was released, I dont feel like hating on smart parts, just feels "old"

Smart Parts aside all one need to do is read Tom's interview by Mike Wallis of Paint magazine from back in 1996 to understand what happened with Automag.

with the limits placed on the game by tournament organizers there has not been a significant need for further advancement of paintball markers.

        higher speed is not needed
        higher BPS are not allowed
accuracy cant really get better, marginally at a high price...
Lighter markers is nice but thats revolutionary change.

All thats was really left was/is aesthetics and marketing.

Its funny back in 1996 automags were a show up and play markers while cockers were the tweak and tune maker. Now we are all caught up with the customizing side of the industry. It just makes good business sense for manufacturers.

The way I see it Tom made his ultimate marker...and it did not include pneumatics and then he pulled out.

From everything I have read the SP lawsuit did not have a leg to stand on when it came to the E-Mag. Maybe I am wrong.

Dont give up the fight. SP sucks the big one forever. Not just their business practices but the actual products they make as well.

Let them make their Ions, so I can keep marking the people holding them.

I remember seeing this on here, and credit goes to whoever typed it as I don't remember:

"Oops, I seem to have stepped on your ION and broke it. If it will make you feel better you can jump on my Automag a few times..."

I owned an ION and can honestly say that I hated it. It was clever in design, I'll give it to SP on that one, but it is cheap through to the core and seems to have a self destructive nature... On a gun where all the screws want to cross thread and the plastic wants to snap it is easy to get upset with it

Its not realy user error, just poor manufacturing. You get what you pay for, why do you think a new ion only costs 160?

That was the point of his post. That the manufacturer blames the user for the malfunction of their cheaply produced markers.

Easy way to wash their hands of any furture responsibility.
