Well, I finally finished my first project. Basically, I fit a classic Automag into an SKS wood stock. I think it came out pretty nice. It weighs a ton, so I may go remote. But it is very solid and works great.

The only tools I used to work on it were a dremel and a hand held drill, so it was a bit of a challenge. I'm definitely getting a drill press for future projects.

By the way, the rail fits almost perfectly into the SKS stock.

Let me know what you think. I'll also gladly consider any suggestions.

How did you run your trigger linkage?

Trigger Linkage

Here's some pics to explain.





I bent a piece of aluminum strip into shape for the trigger mount. Fortunately, the rail has mounting holes for a back bottle. So it was a simple matter to drill and tap two holes into the trigger mount. I then hacked a trigger out of the same aluminum and attached it to the mount with a tension pin. The linkage between the trigger and sear is 16 gauge wire.

Push button from the bottom up that blocks the original sear is probably the easiest/cleanest.

NICE!!! but id off the tank on bottom for a remote setup on the stock somewhere. (possibly bottom) Take some weight off. and keep it low profile!

With the tools you have hollowing out a groove in the buttstock is probably not an option unless you have some chisels and alot of free time (which hey, if you do, great!)


Marstar sells some very cheap SKS recievers that you could use to cover the valve and give it a tacticool look if you felt so inclined here

The original idea was to use an actual SKS magazine (10 round fixed). I didn't want to spend $30 bucks on one, but I copied the magazine's position and angle to make the tank mount. If I decide to go remote full time, I will investigate mounting it at the back of the stock. The SKS stock actually has a hollow section for housing the cleaning tools. So I don't think it would be too hard.

That's kind of what got me interested in making a rifle. I had a Sheridan KP2 a long, long, long time ago when I was a teenager. It was cutting edge for its time, especially when I added the constant air option. I wish I remember what I did with it. I started seeing all the work Palmer has done with the Hurricanes.

Anyway, I got me a rifle again. Can't wait to use it.

did you look on CHEAPER THAN DIRT.COM i found a 30 round for around $20 once. they some good deals every once in a while.

I even purchased a group of excat SKS stocks myself for $15 a piecec for four. I modded a stingray inside one, and a 98 in another. Now im gonna try my hand at a mag in one as well. like yous aid the rail fits almost perfect inside.

I personally like the Dragunov style stocks but this could be nice with a little finish work in the trigger area and a 13 ci tank.
