Old timer coming back. Paint and odd questions

Been out of the sport for a while. Since 2002 actually. Im running a original automagRT running 1k input pressure for reactivity. While shopping for paint I see a lot of newer brands with a lot cheeper prices than in the past. I always used Diablo blaze paint. That or RPS premiumgold or allstar. What Im wondering is are these still the brands I should use or are there any cheeper paint out there that I can run with a good outcome?
Other than that I gather the Dye hopper is the way to go for a high rate of feed and ruggedness?

    When did you start playing?

High ROF is over rated. Drop your pressure down to OEM specs and play as fast as you can pull. Be good with ability and shooting skills.

Cheap paint never has a good out come no matter the gun used.

I find that alot of the paint like Diablo Blaze and others like Draxxus are made by Procaps. Procaps makes alot of brands and alot of brands are made by the same company. Anything made by Procaps seems to be real good. Anything made by RPS or PMI is really good aswell. It all depends on how fresh the paint is and what grade it is. Like RPS makes a winter grade paint called Polar Ice. It has a thicker fill and shell and doesn't like to break easily with the cold weather. So, it would be good for winter, but not for summer when you want a medium to fragile grade that breaks good on your opponent. Stay away from Nelson and any "white box" paint. Nelson is just junk. I know they made the first paintballs, but there quality control sucks, I have opened up new cases that were just all broken and just nasty.
There are tournament grades of paint from each company aswell but if you ask me the difference between Draxxus silver and then Draxxus gold paint which gold is suppose to be a higher grade tourney paint, I would say either is the same. It all depends on the batches and the freshness and temperature which they have been stored. The best paint I have ever shot though is Evil paint which is pretty close to the RPS Marbalizers.
On loaders, the DYE Rotor is good. Halo is really good aswell along with the Empire series. Halos and Empire Reloader B's and Magna's all have similar internals. Viewloader makes the Vlocity which is good even though I have persoanlly had trouble with mine.
I use a Halo and have been using the same one for years now. It is a diehard loader. I would like to try the DYE Rotor though. Oh yeah, don't forget our very own Warpfeed, they work really well. I use a Warp with Halo on top. Loaders are sort of hit or miss. Some work real well, some don't. You can buy a new Halo that doesn't work but another guy might have one that he has used for years with no problem. Seems alot of equipment is hit or miss these days. I would definately stick with DYE, HALO/EMPIRE, Viewloader or Warpfeed.
      Hope that helps ya.

This is so true. Even though I have an arsenal of RT's, I rarely find the need to shoot that much paint. I have worked forever on snap shooting and can tag alot of people with just a few shots. Also, ROF caps have changed for tourney's these days. PSP events are down to 10bps now and some fields have ROF caps aswell. I have put an end to ramping at our field after so many people were getting bonus balled and over shot. Keep that in mind to when shopping for new gear. Like Beemer said, cheap paint is no good. Paint prices have been more than cut in half over the years but $30 a case paint is not as good as some $55 Evil.

Started playing back in 96. Used a 68automag with standard feed untill I baught the automagRT in either 98 or 2000. I dont remember which. I played weekly till 2002 and havnt played since. Ive thaught bout it but always decided aginst it because of the cost. Paintball will take money away from my motorcycle. But Finally ive decided to start playing again. atleast a lil bit.

To be honest I was never a major sprayer with paint. Normally 1-3 round bursts. Thats it. I work hard for my money and couldnt ever see the point in just spraying dollars for no reason. And as far as factory spec, I dont have a clue what input pressure that would be.

Snapshooting is how i was always trained to play by the guys that I played with back in the day. But when pushed I would use the ROF to get my butt out of a jam.

So Procaps or RPS or is the way to go. Thanks. I was figuring that the $50-55 paint was what I would be going with. Oh. an Nelson paint has sucked the whole time I have played.

I always stayed away from the Halo because people kept talking bout how the shells break. For now I will continue to use my old Revvy.

I don't understand why people say that the HALO shells break easily. Yes you should stay away from HALO's if you like to slam them into the ground or do not know what snug is when tightening screws. I still have all 6 of my HALO hoppers with original shells and I do not baby them. They look like hell, but are not cracked. I have replaced all of the drive cones, but parts are going to wear out eventually. The only thing that bothers me about the Halo is the damn on/off button should have been made out of a rubber membrane instead of a sticker.

I dont know eather. No I am not hard on my stuff. Other than a few small dings in the corners of my main rail my gun is mint looking. Granted its not been used in years. But from 2000-2002 I played every weekend.

                AutomagRT

BlackDeath, Input pressure should be a minimum of 800 PSI into the gun. I think you'll find 850 PSI into the gun very good, you will still get alittle reactivity and be able to shoot down into your tank deeper for more shots.

Now for a loader.....revy will work fine. Do you have a Level X bolt in your RT? A must have if you are using a Revy. If not then I would suggest a force feed loader. Get a good once and you won't regret it. I don't have but have seen the new DYE Rotor hopper. Simple and effective. Seems to be pretty good on batteries. another highly recommended hopper is the new Prophecy by Empire. A good friend of mine highly recommends it. Many a good hopper, to include a HALO, so find the right price range and get one.

Hell ya. Someone that has been around and knows what it was like back when Mags struck fear into your opponents and they ran from you or just quit. Premium paint is always the best, but white box stuff you might find the field selling often isn't too bad. I've been out for a few years also and things always change. What is considered the best these days I can't say, but I can give you this advice. If your Rt isn't equipped with the Lvl10 anti chopping bolt then I'd suggest the upgrade immediately. Paint today seems to be made quit well, but designed for these modern markers that in various ways are more gentle that the RT ever was prior to the LVL10 bolt upgrade.

Funny, That happened when I got my first mag back in '91. Half the people I played with wouldn't play unless I used my VM68.

Yup. I playd back when it was a mag cocker war for the title of best gun. I had a 68mag and BrotherNlaw had a cocker. Heck. First few times I played people wer scared to play aginst a VM68. At my house right now Ive got a Prolite with a teardrop barrel. A tricked out 98 autococker (That was baught before 98). And My RT. I will deff stick to the nicer paints that I was always used to. I did notice one thing tho. what happened to the cases of paint having 2500 rounds instead of 2000 like now?
LVL10. hummmm. That was just coming out right before I quit playing I think. Pretty sure I remember Tom offering some out on the boards as a test to get feedback on the product before it went in to production. For now I will play with my old LVL7. If I stay with it for a while I will get the 10 and new light weight on/off setup. Id rather not spend any more than I have to just to see if im going to start playing again. And right now ive just baught a used apocolypse system to replace my megareg that didnt pass hydro. Still need a mask linse and football cleats.

Had to edit and add this. I just opened up my old 4pod pack to find 3 pods that have paint still in them from 2002. Not only that My brother N laws pack that is with my stuff has paint in it from at least 2000. It may actually be from the late 90s. LOL. Its not as bad as I would have thaught it to be eather.
