I'm thinking of duracoating a ULE mag (my son's). He wants a snow camo pattern. Is duracoat a good solution. Who offers duracoat services?

VooDoo Coatings
I had some powder coat work done recently. I think someone recently had duracoat done too. -
I've seen their posts on AO and mcarterbrown. Are you happy with their work? Was the price reasonable?Originally posted by TwilightGVooDoo Coatings

I saw quite a few of the FEP Quest guns with the Desert digi camo duracoat.
It was really neat stuff. It is a Coating tho, not a surface finish like an anno job, plate, or np3. Parts have to be masked off and it is thick. Kind of like a layer of wall latex paint. It just has more of a distinct layer kind of look compared to that of powder coating.
I was impressed with it... but I dont know if I would go out of my way to do it.Last edited by MoeMag; 03-20-2009, 01:19 AM.Comment

Not yet, but it will go there shortly. Instead I chose to sandblast, clean with acetone, use a self etching primer (Walmart) and Krylon camo colors (Walmart). It's the same method I used when I duracoated my Sydarm. Both finishes chip/scratch off with moderate effort. The good thing is touch up is easy. There is another alternative of Hydrographics. It supposedly has the durability of car paint. Hydrographics link:Originally posted by jrodI saw in the Voodoo Coatings post that you had some work done. Did it ever happen? Were you happy with their work?

I had VooDoo do some powdercoating work for me and am very happy with the results. (I even started a feedback threadOriginally posted by jrodI've seen their posts on AO and mcarterbrown. Are you happy with their work? Was the price reasonable?
) For the work I had done, I thought the price was very reasonable and the turn-around is fairly quick. I do not know if there is much difference in price between the powdercoating and duracoating.
If you haven't already done so, just send them a PM. Tyler usually responds very quickly and very easy to communicate with.
As for the durability differences, well.. I've already put a scratch in my fresh new powdercoating
I think in general, it's very durable. It might be more scratch resistant than standard ano but if your part bangs into something, it can be scratched.

That is an excellent solution and Luke is very knowledgeable on powder coating. Not to mention his turn around is rather quickOriginally posted by lukeIf I wanted a cammo pattern I would start with a powdercoated base (flat black of course) then paint over the powdercoat. But what do I know?
