    Masks these days?

Hey all, I have been out of paintball for some time, and I am looking to get back into the thick of it. Gassed up the old classic mag a few days ago for the first time in probably over a year, and not even a leak. My question though is about getting a new mask.

What would you recommend for a mask these days, preferably in the $50-$100 range? Right now I have an old PMI mask that I'm not too impressed with. Thanks in advance for the input

I've got some eVents, some VForce Profilers and some VForce Grills and love 'em all. I would try some different ones on and see what's best for your head. My eVents are my go to/ main mask since they're the most comfy.

I have a decently large head, and glasses, and my Profilers are nice.

Grills and events are a bit smaller, but just as nice.

They're all easy to change the lenses too.

Flexes and such are still a PITA to change lenses, and they're stupid expensive....

Vents Avatars, Empire E-vents, JT Proflexes, and Proto Axis masks are all great masks. I personally use E-vents.

Vents/E-vents: Lightweight, good sound (bit of an echo, sometimes), and very breathable. They're on the smaller size, so if you have a big head or a huge jaw (or like to yell a lot), you may need to be wary, but I have had no problems with getting hit in my face. Lens replacement is a snap, and can be done in 30 seconds. Vision is great. This is my main mask. If you like soft ears, go with E-vents. If not, Avatars. I haven't had experience with the new E-vents, but they don't look much different, and that means you can probably find the older styles for cheaper.

JT Proflex: The industry standard. Good weight, decent sound, good breathability, and HIGHLY customizable, with good protection all around. The older ones are horrendous with lens replacement, though (the new ones seem to have a fast lens replacement system in place). The big thing with them is how many choices you have in making your mask. I have one for a backup that I use every once in a while.

Proto Axis: Good all around mask. Decent weight, good sound, decent breathability, and offers lots of protection all around. Lens replacement is good too, if I remember correctly. My friend bought these for themselves (they have huge heads), and it seems like a solid mask choice.

Dye Invisions: I've tried on a pair, but I've never actually delt with this in a game or anything. When I first bought my masks, I stayed away from the horrendous lens replacement system, hearing that it was worst than JTs. They're top notch in every other aspect, though, according to everyone else. The newer ones look like E-vents and have a quick lense system, so that problem should be gone.

The reason I talked about these masks and not their less expensive brethren is because I believe the one thing you can never spend too much cash on is your mask. They protect the most dangerous place to get hit, so nothing should be spared at their expense. What you should do is go to a local pro shop and try on whatever interests you. Talk to the owner, and get their feedback, and pick the one you like the most. As long as you're satisfied, you can't go wrong.

thanks for the recommendations so far, I will have to check out the vForce line. I guess the most important thing to me is not having the goggles fog up, since that's my biggest problem as of now.

                  Vforce all the way.

They don't have dual-pane thermals like the JTmasks but whatever they do to the lenses to make them anti-fog works wonders.

I can play in 99% humidity and still see crystal clear in my Profilers.

As far as all the masks go, V-Force will get you the most bang for your buck. $60 is the average for Profilers and they can compete with masks that cost over $100!

Nice and soft, cover your entire head without being too big, unmatched periferal vision, the foam is super comfortable, strap is comfy and easy to adjust, quick lens change system, it's just a great mask.

Other ones to look for are the Empire E-Vents, they seem to be pretty popular, and although the ProFlexs are semi out-dated they are still great masks.

I'll post another vote for Vforce. I've owned two over the last 5 years. They work great, and no fogging.

Vforce - go with the Filers, you wont walk around looking like a Unicorn that way :) ( silly dip in the top of the Grillz ) Good coverage, 1 piece design, soft in all the right places, good for big heads, easy lens changes, Only complaint I had was a single pane lens. These are also pretty sick looking if you peel off the sides and put E-Vent foam sides on there. going to eat some paint if you get shot in the jaw line though.

Proto Switch ( Axis and Axis Pro cost more and aren't as good I don't think ) Good for big heads, good breath-ability double pane thermal lenses, good coverage.

I would recommend if you think you need a fan NOT getting the Proto Turbine fan that is designed for these - its handy to be able to clip it in, but it sounds like its moniker - a turbine engine. the FANZ kits actually fit nicely right over the fan port on these ( double fan NOT needed, but its what I bought )

Both goggles can be had for roughly the 50-60 dollar range and perform as well or better than the 80-100 goggles on the market

I recommend the v-force line as well. I own profilers and the vantage pro (their lowest line)
Ive owned a grillz as well, but really didnt like it compared to the profilers.
The vantage pros are suprisingly nice for economy level masks, comfortable and solid protection. These are my loaners, but i'd take them over most other masks i've tried, including my bro's e-vents.
But u can get profilers for pretty cheap nowadays too, so go for fit n comfort:)

I like my system much better...and the fans actually fit the mask. Go figure.

i got some used profilers for 20 bux. Worth every penny. They are not thermal, BUT they DO NOT fog. (I play in jungles in miami humidity). They are also very comfortable and stay on my face well. Go to your local B&M and try putting some on.
