    "Polishing" It Can Look Nice!!!

Well I had a few extra mag parts laying around so I though about getting them chromed. To my dismay there are no chrome shops with in 2 hours from where I live. So I tried my hand at Polishing. After a little resereach and many trips to the hardware store, I came out with some very beautiful parts. I had a old benchmark frame(black) with a custom carbon steal trigger i made, a stock powerfeed body(grey), and a old 12" Crown Point Barrel That I would try with....
And This Is what came out

Here is some pic of it all together on a spash kit I picked up

all the polishing took about 20 hours from anoded to polished. Tell me what you think, I dont care if you flame as long as you can tell me a better way to do it

I did that once too. 2000 grit wetsand is a hell of a drug...

          Another anno removal option.

Although it uses stinky chemicals...it is much faster than sanding the annodizing off. I have used a healthy dose of heavy duty oven cleaner sprayed onto the anno. It works best if you do it outside (DUHH) by hanging the sprayed parts in the sun to dry after spraying. The anno simply dissolves and can be washed/wiped away not long after. Use a drip pan and do this with gloves eye protection and like I said outside or well ventilated area.

I then polished the parts from there.

REMEMBER do not spray anything with rubber or silicone or plastic parts attached! Or it will eat that too!

looks good. My only suggestion to make things go faster is to use power tools. I polished a powerfeed body once and it took me probably 10 hours and came out decent.

Then I did my minimag body with a power hand sander. I had better result in about an hour and with no blisters!!!

But I may try the oven cleaner technique on my next project as I have a number of parts with hard to sand spaces.

mind you, stripping anodizing with chemicals is not for the faint of heart
as there is a point where it will look like an acid wash gone horribly wrong.

And why hasn't anyone asked about that trigger yet?

Where did you get that bad boy?

It looks like a brake handle off an old bmx...

Now, don't touch it otherwise you will never get the prints off.

I'm a newb, at least when it comes to visual mods, so bear with me.

First of all, it looks amazing. Very nice job. Second of all, um, how'd you do it. I don't really want a writeup of all of the steps, but what did you google, what tools did you use, and, most importantly, how much did all of the supplies cost? I'm just sitting here looking at my raw classic body wondering what I could do to it, and this looks like it could be a pretty fun summer project. So, any tips would be appreciated, thanks.

Oh, and that trigger is siiiiiiiiiiiiiiick.
